Train troubles

Post by margaretcarnes »

Just as a warning to others - much as I love rail travel in Thailand, and have never failed to recommend it - the trip from Bangkok to HH yesterday was I'm afraid nothing less than scary.

It does seem to be a problem with one particular train - the 3.35 pm from Bangkok through to Yala. The rear coach - a sleeper - has loud bangs and crashes coming from the region of the couplings. Spoke to a well known expat couple today who noticed the same a couple of weeks ago on the same train. Yesterday even Thai men were moving away from what is normally a good place to have a smoke. And for the first time ever it was a relief to get off the train!

But if anyone knows how to express concern to the Rail company - in a way they might just take seriously - I would be interested to know before that thing has a serious accident.

Don,t worry Mags

Once it has derailed a couple of times it will get patched up and back in service in no time.

Mags how often to you use the rail network and how often have you used this particular one?

I think if you are a fairly regular user say once a month, then I would most definetly take this up with the authorities.

For me personally, after 24 years in Hua Hin I would not consider or recommend the train.
