boarder crossing Ranong

Post by expatsally »

Anyone know if there is any problem getting to Ranong with the current flooding and or problems crossing because of recent elections in Burma?
Thanks for any info. :)

I'm not sure about flooding, but Ranong Imm tel number should be
0-7782-1216 0-7782-1216
Maybe give them a call.

Check that phone number Sally but I've never known the Ranong/Victoria Point crossing to close to farang, and if worst comes to worst do the big boat to the casino instead.

That's true, Mags. I've done the run countless times in the past and even if there's a standoff with gunboats either side of the estuary they let farangs do their run. Thais and Burmese sometimes can't cross though.
However there was one occasion years ago when nobody was allowed to cross. I was caught by that coming back from Kao Lak. So, it was the Andaman Club and they charged quite a bit extra in those days if you were just border running for a visa exempt stamp rather than a visa run - ie activating a second entry on a proper visa.
It was only the once, mind you.

Id always advocate the Andaman Club crossing option as its just plain easier than dealing with all the lunacy at both ends of the Victoria Point crossing. You also dont get soaking wet when theres a monsoon squall.

I did the Andaman a few weeks back and it was business as usual, but that was a few days before the reported floods.

The lass on the desk said they had cancelled one crossing because the sea was so choppy...but that seems to be a rarity.

Id try them first mate
