Cognac/Brandy

Post by barrys »

To continue the discussion on the different types of alcoholic beverages, I think this should be included.

I don't actually drink or even like spirits normally, but during my previous frequent visits to Russia I developed an immediate liking for Ararat, distilled in Armenia.
It has a beautifully full, smooth flavour and is made from Armenian white grapes and spring water.

I'd almost forgotten how good it tasted until we hosted a family birthday party for a group of Armenians on our big boat this year and they brought a couple of bottles of Ararat with them, apart from some real caviar, Beluga vodka and Russian champagne.

Because I can still remember a few words of Russian, I was invited to join the party and sample all of these goodies - what a day

Does anyone know if it's available here?

For me, should I indulge, then I'm an Armagnac fan. The after meal delights. :thumb:

I know it's a certain brandy region of France (Gascogny) but they kick out some decent stuff, give them that.

The popular phrase is "All Armagnac is brandy but not all brandy is Armagnac."

I love cognac, but my preference keeps changing over the years. I used to think Courvoisier was the best, then I switched to Remy Martin and for years thought it was the best; now here I've been drinking Hennessy as it seems to be the most commonly available and I like it very much too.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

You guys are so close to my heart with these booze postings!   I used to be a Director of Food & Beverage for various hotels/resorts/companies for 25 years, so my interest in those subject is natural. I used to drink Martell Cordon Bleu when I lived in a colder climate, but Cognac is no longer on the "usually drink" list for me. I have a bottle of the forementioned as well as a bottle of Metaxa Amphora in my closet, but they are just aging there. (I mean they are just getting old, spirits don't age in a bottle.)

bedtime. Much more rounder in the taste
than the above mentioned..
