Hi SJ

Bali Hai isn't possible yet as the local authority has still not installed any (dis)embarkation facilities.
This means you have to be something of an acrobat to get on and off the boat.
So initially, for reasons of safety, the boat will dock at Ocean Marina, which is very safe, and there will be a free minibus shuttle to the City Centre.
The boat will dock at Bali Hai as soon as it is safe to do so.

Cooked breakfasts at the marina before departure are no problem at all.
We have a restaurant facility here and our own full-time cook!

Here's the Ocean Marina web site. It's just about half way (maybe closer to 1/3) between Pattaya and Sattahip. Pete

Thailiving Ferry is excited to announce the launch of its new high speed Catamaran that will provide water transportation between two of Thailand ’s most popular tourist cities, Pattaya and Hua-Hin. The company hosted a grand opening party Friday night to introduce its sleek new transport, with luxurious seating, and state-of-the-art technology. Ferry service will begin on the 19th of November 2010 and they expect to operate a regular schedule of three crossings per week. With the new catamaran service it will be so much easier to travel across the gulf from Pattaya to Hua-Hin, and then on to Ko Samui and Phuket if desired.

The trip takes 3 hours and 15 minutes and will be made by a high speed catamaran, 18m long, cruising at 20knots. The Catamaran is built to international standards and makes use of the latest in navigation and safety equipment. The transport service will operate between Pattaya at Ocean Marina and Hua Hin at Pak Nam Pran. Customers will get transportation to and from the piers with minibuses making stops at central locations in each city. One-way trip fare will be 1600 baht and for return 3000 baht. In November and December, Thailiving will offer promotions from 1200 baht.

Well, if so, then get ready for a flood of "quality" weekenders that want a change for a day or two and find that this is the easiest option.

Be afraid IMO. Will probably have a noticable effect.

Its possible that we might see some golfers coming from Pattaya, but courses here are certainley much more expensive, do you image the ""quality" people coming and searching around Bintabaht area - very unlikely!!!! Is BKK not cheaper/shorter to get to and much more there to see and do.

I hope the weather calms down for them by tomorrow morning. Tuesday evening we had a tree flattening wind storm and very heavy rains blow through here this side. Spent today with a crew and a truck resetting one mature tree that went down. Now as I post it is raining and blowing again, but not nearly as hard as Tuesday. Hopefully the dawn will bring clear skies and calm seas. Pete

Is Understudy on the inaugural voyage reporting as he said he would? He seems to have gone quiet on that one.

Hi there eeveryone

Hi there Big Boy good Thing that you asked I would had done a report on the inaugural trip but apparently the small German Southeast Asian maiinly Thailand centric Magazin called "Farang" ( not to be confused with the local German in Patts called "Der Farang" with which we have an co-op agreement.) Magazin that I work have their own Pattaya based Reporter there. His Name is Winnie, German a well established figure in the Pattaya scene. So it's his turf so it would had been disrespectful if I had done the reporting.
I'm also hadn't much time lately to go down there to Patts and as I'm still stuck here in Bangas.
I'm terribly sorry if I had let some of ya down for those who expected an inaugural Report.

Looks like a reasonable morning weather wise this side. Light cloud cover all the way between Pattaya and Hua Hin with rain showers and thunderstorms primarily in the middle gulf, not on the ferry route. Seas calm with waves classified as "ripples -.20 meters". Much heavier weather and storms south of you near Chumphon. Should be a good inaugural crossing. Pete

The ferry did make its first scheduled crossing from Pattaya to Hua Hin this morning without any problems and left here again punctually at 1.30 p.m. for the return journey to Pattaya.

The passengers on the inaugural trip this morning were delighted with the service and said they really enjoyed the trip.

The next service will be on Sunday and then on Wednesday.
