Summer storms expected in many parts of Thailand

Post by Norseman »

BANGKOK, March 11 (TNA)

People living in many parts of Thailand, including Bangkok, are warned to be aware of and prepared for summer storms over the next couple of days.

The Meteorological Department issued its warning on Saturday, saying that the country's northeastern, northern, and central regions, as well as Bangkok and its surrounding provinces, would face summer storms early next week, as a cool front from China moves in to envelop the warm parts of the kingdom.

As the different weather systems collide, some affected areas may experience hailstone showers. Other areas will simply experience cooler weather.

The weather bureau said the country's northeastern region would be first affected by the summer storms Sunday evening, following by the other areas.

The Meteorological Department also warned of high waves over two metres high accompanied by strong winds in the Gulf of Thailand from March 13-15, especially in the evenings.

Thai trawlers should, therefore, be more careful and should closely follow updated news reports before sailing out.

If this weather front brings a cooler few days, I'd welcome it. Don't know about anyone else. Might help to keep this month's elect bill down as well if I don't need air con so much :D

Yeah, these last few days on the eastern front here have been scorchers, a real taste of the hot season. Late yesterday there was some rumbling off in the distant northeast but nothing arrived here. Surf is high though, probably more than a meter. Plenty of people on the beach but few in the water. Pete

Dammed clever these Met people - 2 days after Songkhran and its still coming down in buckets.
Is this yet another example of 'Global Warming' - or is this amount of rain within acceptable blips?
Your a long time dead!

Just back from my morning jog and observed that many trees has been knocked down by the heavy wind last night.
It was as usual a lot of water on the thresholds to the houses in canalroad, but no water inside. (Have some Danish friends living there and they had to keep constant watch all night).
With all the wind and rain last night, I'm sure that some roofs could not withstand all the pouring water.
Anybody wet out there?
