The Marriot?

Post by suede »

Hi there! Was just wondering if anyone who has visited the Marriott or know anything about it would want to share their experiences?

Seems like a very nice hotel, especially with the restaurants on site (how much is an average meal at that steak place?) but what I really want to know is which room "standard" is the better.

You have a choice of Garden Terrace, Garden/Pool View (that is - garden terrace except with a balcony instead) and Ocean View.
Anyone know anything about it?

Hi Suede

I have replied to you elsewhere but in short I don't think the Marriott is that great. It is looking old now. The rooms are quite small and worn for that standard of hotel. Balconies are also small as is the pool area.

As with all hotels like that the food is quite expensive - I paid 3,500 for what was a good meal for 2 in the Italian, but in retrospect it probably wasn't worth the money (I was knackered and it was the height of Songkram so didn't want soaking yet again lol!).

For that standard I think the Hilton is a better deal. More convenient location as well.

Cheers

What room type did you stay in, Seaside? Did you try "Chicago Grill" Restaurant?

:( hi we stayed in the marriot first eight days in april,2006.gutted we could of had the hilton ,but family member told us marriot was better.all i can say is i would say its only a 3*and a very worn one at that.very passed its sell by date.the pool was very warm but the sun beds were very compacted in.not my cup of tea.
we stayed in a standerd delux.we refused two rooms before we accepted the third.they are very small and the first two smelt of damp.i wouldnt stop here ever again.
and the steak grill was 3700bht for a meal for two.we were tired after the traveling but i made sure we didnt eat there again not up to our standerd.
we useually go to eygpt for our hols and we were very dissapointed with this hotel.never had to moan before. :D very glad to be home !!!

I stayed in what I think was described as a "garden view". The balcony was very small and there were some huge trees just in front of it so we couldn't see much at all (except for the trees of course) :(

Didn't try the Chicago Grill although the night we couldn't get into Chiao (or whetever it is called) the chef did recommend the Grill (but I suppose he would wouldn't he?).

The only reason we stayed there was because we couldn't get into the Hilton. Never again.

that dampness - did you request a room without carpets? (maybe those carpets were the issue). Anyway, I´m sorry to hear that you weren´t satisfied. especiellay when you pay "top dollar" for a place to stay.

personally, I have only heard positive reports. However for a small amount more the Hilton or Sofitel look better options.
