Transport to airport

Post by Randy Cornhole »

Am I right in thinking that I can get a big bus (dont trust the mini buses) to the victory monument and then some sort of train to the new airport?

Just looking for the cheap charlie option... 8)

Any help would be appreciated... :thumb:

Not sure if you can get to Victory Monument directly on a big bus, but there is a service that leaves the bus terminal in Hua Hin from the Siri Petchkasem Hotel, Sa Song Road and will take you to the Southern Bus Terminal in Bangkok every 30 minutes. You will then need to get to Phayathai Station to connect with the sky train to Suvarnabhumi airport.

According to her indoors, there are no longer any bigger buses going to Bangkok, but only the mini buses. Can't believe it myself...

From Victory Monument, you can get the sky train from Victory Monument to Phaya Thai (1 stop), where you can catch the new train service to the airport. I think there are 2 services, an express service and a slower stopping
service. Can't remember the prices, but do remember the express train is only cheaper than a taxi if there is less than 2 traveling.

The Express Service is a 15-minute non-stop journey between the City Terminal (Makkasan) and the airport with a fare at Bt150 per trip.
You have to start at Phaya Thai and change at Makkasan

City Line commuter trips, with set fares at Bt45, take 30 minutes to reach the airport, departing from Phaya Thai

They seem to be have substituted some of the scheduled big blue buses with white minibus/vans going to Southern Bus Terminal or Victory Monument.
If you do get on a big bus to the Southern Bus Terminal then there is a public Airport Bus (limited stop) for about 30 Baht. A taxi to the airport will be a few hundred Baht.
Allow plenty of time though (long journey and traffic jams) and it's not very frequent.
The bus terminates at the Airport Bus Terminal where you will need to change to the free Airport shuttle bus (5 mins) which stops outside terminal buiding.
Quickest way is the minibus to Victory Monument then take the train.

Fares--- from Vic Mon--fare on skytrain and airport train for 2 people about 350b so Taxi would be an option and for 3 no doubt at all.

Randy i dont know if you are aware that there is a new airline flying from DM to Buriram its Nok Air 45 minuits flight time and only half an hour from Surin.

The last carrier PB Air went belly up more than a year ago.

We are going to give this ago as i dont want the marathon journey from Hua Hin.

What i would like to know last year we got a taxi from Moo Chit (northern bus terminal) to the new southern terminal is there a rail link from there to eather airport.

Kendo.

Just made the Journey from HH to the airport and went on the big (slow) bus to the southern bus terminal. Because it was the last bus of the day from HH at 9pm it didn't arrive at southern bus terminal till 12.30am so had to get a taxi to the airport which cost another 300bt

Kendo.
Kendo, The southern bus terminal is too far out so it's not served by any train services.
You will only have a choice between other bus services and taxis.
The skytrain station at Mo chit is about a 10 minute walk from the Mo Chit Northern bus terminus.
If you do decide to use the Skytrain you should then transfer at Phaya Thai station to the new Airport train station which is the most convenient (and only?) place the 2 train services have an interchange.

I don't get it. Mini bus only cost 160 baht same as big bus and delivers you to Victory monument where you get in Sky Train and make change at Playa Thai to get on "local" 30 minute ride to airport from there (no change of car) for much less than express cost (which requires a change at the big station). As the old saying goes, Keep it Simple Stupid or am I just dense?

Horrific pictures - some of the drivers of the big buses are as bad though.
Just more chance of surviving an accident than being wedged into a tin can van at 120km/h.
