best coffee in HH?

Post by maxmont »

There is a tiny little coffee/inet shop in soi 94 in the same little shopping complex as s&s restaurant; on the right hand side, towards the end of the road as you approach petchaksem road. It opened about 3 months ago, the thai lady owner used to work in various luxury hotels in bangkok. It is hard to see how she will survive because the shop is very small and her offering is so narrow. However she does have one great thing going for her. She sells amazing coffee imported from columbia. I am not a coffee nerd and survive mainly on starbucks fare which i dont particularly like and traditional italian/continental roasts which are rather strong. Her coffee is quite different. It is extremely mellow, much more subtle and has a slightly sweet character. It is without doubt the nicest coffee i have ever drunk. So if you feel like soemthing different pay her a visit. As many of you know there are some interesting boutique type shops including an excellent bakery on that little strip.

No doubt everyone has their own favourite coffee shop. Further thoughts welcome.

I wonder if the lady is serving the Thai produced coffee - which quite a few outlets do now. It is quite distinctive and difficult to describe. Certainly not the thick gritty brew which is found at the 20 baht coffee stalls (although those can be very good value.)

Must admit I think the price of coffee now at many places in HH is extortionate, and often more than I would pay in the UK. Admirals Cappo was a weak milky experience last trip and I stuck to Euro Bakery for cappo usually.

As for tea it is also pretty expensive in HH caffs now, but a good - and much cheaper - alternative to the PG/Liptons is to try Chinese or green leaf tea.

Well, I think I'll pay that little shop a visit!

My first and only time in Thailand a month ago, I couldn't find anything I would define as coffee. Am bringing my own coffee for my next visit next month :)

I've got one of those Nespresso machines, wonderful coffee, lot's of varieties.

I've been bringing the capsules back with me from overseas trips, does any one know if the capsules are readily available in Thailand?

I suppose that you are aware that the "Wild Thai Civet" is Civet droppings. Never tried it myself, but I think that it would be one of those things that you would be better off not knowing about where it came from. It seems that the bean ferments inside the animal, and passes through intact.

Indonesia has a similar product, which is widely acclaimed by many coffee drinkers.

Where can you buy the Doi Chaang coffee in HH?
I love good coffee, but have been unable to find & make any in Thailand w a normal percolator at home...
If you love great coffee like me, try the 'Mix&Match' outdoor café at Market Village, or the small 'Together' coffee shop on the soi where the night market is. Any other ideas would be welcome...
Malcolmitm: I envy you and your machine!!!! will have to bring one next time, as it gives you the absolutely best coffee ever...Cups can be ordered on the Nespr website ( delivery charge but...) and delivered at your home.
