Baan Sri Kaow and Baan Itsara restaurants

Just been doing a bit of net surfing and came across these two restaurants, one on PetchkasemRd and the other on Nebkhehart Rd.

Both look like nice places to go - can anyone give any reports?

Itsara is always a must when I'm in town.

Great food, location and staff.

Yes, we've been going to Itsara for over six years for Thai seafood on the beach. It's very popular with Bangkok Thais too.

I'd give a thumbs up to Itsara as well.
Just as another option in the area, I've been twice to Yoo Yen (as in "live cool") which is also on Nebkhehart a bit bit further north, just after Soi 51 on the sea side of the road. Very similar to Itsara in as much as there's an old, converted wooden Thai house and plenty of outside seating right by the sea. Also great seafood and other dishes. Gets very busy at weekends.

Lomu, is Yoo Yen relatively new, as I've not heard of it before. How do prices compare to Bahn Itsara?

I'm not sure how long it's been open. The first time I was there was around two years ago. On both occasions, it worked out about 500 THB a head, I think. Something like that anyway as there were kids eating as well. That included a number of large beers that were shared among a few of us. The women weren't drinking.

The Yu Yen opened around late 2002 and as it was only a 3 min walk up the road, we used it a lot. Great food and great surroundings and I would recommend it to those of you who don't live by the sea. The frogs that live under the wooden decking are a bit vocal tho.
Their กระดูกหมูอบน้ำแดง (pork ribs) and ปลาสามรส (3 flavours fish) were my favorites. Forgive my Thai, I'm still learning.

The owners took us upstairs in the old Thai teak villa (above the coffee shop) as our house was very similar, to show us that it had been kept as original as possible whilst they lived there. Like walking into the old Teak palace in BKK, but I think it has been changed now.

The Itsara (our neighbour) we tried twice, good if you are in a coach party, as they will have you in and out in 30 mins. Food was mediocre in my view and we never went there again.

i see on the website menu they include the well known dish "hippo gratinated" has anybody tried this particular dish and where do the hippo's come from ? maybe the zoo!
