Road Safety at last?

There is one intersection that I sometimes use in Bangkok that has both a written sign, and a symbol sign with a line through it saying no left turn on red. I stopped at it a few days ago and the next thing a brown arm poked out of the MIB booth waving me on!

You're lucky he didn't fine you You see, if you get out of your car and study those signs very closely, you see there a lot of fine print relating to the various terms and conditions.........only stop during certain hours, only stop in MIB are present, and it's within the last five days of the month, only stop if no other traffic in site, stopping to allow right of way traffic to pass is a criminal offense and carries a penalty not exceeding 200 baht, etc, etc, etc.

Those sound like the names of some of the black diamond ski runs I was always afraid to try!

A point was raised earlier about positioning at traffic lights..how many times do you sit at the line, IN THE LEFT LANE on red
at the 'Tessaban lights' and a Thai pulls up on your left side,(I plan to go straight ahead), then when green finally shows he carves across the front of you doing a right turn up Pekky Rd
(please note the Thais DO NOT like being behind a Farang)

Next point is the new speed-limit sign coming into town on Soi 88. At the city-limit it now states 30kms/hr...OK. Now check the speed-limit sign on Chomsin, just before the rail-crossing,coming into town the new sign says 60kms/hr..FFS why put the sign 15m before the railway ??

^ Yeah, I get a laugh every time I drive through the little narrow winding sois in the main village of Nong Khae (between sois 102 to 112) as there are many speed limit signs saying "60" on very tight residential roads where children play in the street. Because of the soi width, curves, and oversize speed bumps you couldn't go 60 if you tried.

Change of statistics..the traffic-people have spotted that 60 sign just before the rail crossing & changed it
to a 20. (the '60' sign is now 50m before it..??)

What is even better, in Soi 6 there is a 60 sign right in front of the School gate, on the opposite side of the road heading East. Less than a 100m up the road is another one reading 20 just before the train line.

So it is ok to speed past the School, but please do not run into the train.

I think the signals on the road arent that clear. There are some speed signs that only give information to reduce speed, not what the maximum speed actually is! Im driving a motorcycle, never been in a dangerous situation myself, but saw many accidents!

Thai road signs should be replaced by transmitters..so when a Thai passes by it sends them a text!..
..You just know they'll open that txt within 20 seconds..driving OR riding..ha-ha!
