Welcome to Hua Hin (soon). Dont worry at all, life is far better here than the uk. We all left already! We are all looking for our own Utopia in life, so we sometimes neglect the great parts of the life we have. Here is my day today for you as an example. Played golf at Lake View, the best course here in my opinion. Weather was great (got a little red in the face mind!) good company, played like a dickhead, had a few beers. Working now until 9pm. Then out for some social. That beats any of my working days in the uk! The locals here are a great crowd, you will find the places to play darts, pool and socialise.
Hua Hin is a great place to stay and live, for sure there are things that are annoying, but BOTTOM LINE we all choose to live here regardless and i am sure if you simply asked if we prefer here to our own country the answers would be pretty conclusive! Look forward to meeting you when you get here, will have a game of golf if you like? PS is your house on schedule, many are not at the moment because of the heavy rain this summer.

I hate HH. I wake up at 6-7am every day, mess about with my computer and then have to put up with my Thai wife from 9-10am.
Then I've got to drag myself down to the beach for a 6-7km walk and have to put up with a few beers as a reward. This all before lunchtime.
Afternoons get hot so I generally have to put up with being in the air-con bedroom watching terrible television and wondering what we'll have for dinner.
After eating that, I pass out around 9-10pm and it's back to the grind again the next day.
Sure wish I was back in London, waking up at the same time, driving from Kennington to Crawley and back each day and sometimes never seeing the sun. (I notice clocks go back this Sunday).
Anyway, that's all a bit of a jest to the OP. HH's great really and whilst we all have a go sometimes, I'm sure you'll love it and have a gripe or three after a little while :thumb:

I and many others think of HH as our little bit of paradise. Yes we do get defensive when negative comments are passed by farang farang about our beloved town, but we ourselves are known from time to time to whinge a little about whatever. But whatever in the scheme of things becomes the subject of a winge, it all pales into insignificance compared with the magnetism that draws us to life in HH.

Some of the experiences you will have will be frustrating, but after a while you expect the problems, and life would not be the same without them.

I agree about the beach early in the morning - fantastic

Hua Hin

Post by Limey711 »

Just spent the month of October in lovely Hua Hin, what a fantastic place, the people, the culture and the pace of life are all superb. Bought a house in Tropical Hill 2 myself, but mine is a little behind schedule, I think the reason is, it has been such a successful project and all the plots sold so fast and the weather of course, it did rain hard for a couple of days while we were there and that does tend to slow things down a little, plus the holidays, again while we were there, there was a two day holiday.

Because the builders live in the north of Thailand, they leave the day before the holiday to travel home and they travel back down the day after the holiday, so in effect for a two day holiday you lose them for four days.

We stayed in a house next door to ours for four weeks and watched ours being built, I am glad we did stay on site, becasuse now I fully understand why there are delays in the building programme, the pace the builders work at, all the work is undertaken using hand tools I never saw one machine working while we were there.

Once you get used to the pace of life and the way the Thais drive, I am sure like me, you will love it out there, we were going to move out there lock stock and barrel, in October next year, but we have decided to go as early as we can, so we are trying to move in July.

Hua Hin will be a lovely place to live.

I wish you all the best for the future perhaps we could meet for a beer.

Regards

Limey

I think it has all been said. I agree with all of it.

There are problems here and many people are doing things to help. You also have to understand that this a radily growing area where many issues have to be dealt with by the authorites.

Look luck with your new life. I travelled around more than half of SE Asia before I settled in Hua Hin and I still believe the choice was correct.

Good things about Hua Hin

Post by roberto »

Yes, I have many good things to say about Hua Hin, primarily the food and the variety and the shopping and the activities. Great place to live but expensive compared to lots of other Thai places depends whether you want to be surrounded by falangs and all the places falangs like. I was once on a boat on the Nile listening to an American tourist explain to a bewildered guide that not only did Boysie Idaho have feluccas like the nile it also had the same food and more authentic Egyptian artifacts "Because the man in the antique shop certifies them" Made me wonder why she was there, could have stayed home done the same holdiday and pocketed the cash. Hua Hin is authentic thailand...............for tourists but I love it because I can get away somewhere without falangs for a few weeks at a time and just be with Thais enjoying great food and entertainment without feeling I have brought my western life with me.

I have been to many places and see many things

Like a lot of others.

But my first trip to Hua Hin was the best time i ever had. Every thing was fun and every one was nice

The food was great, and i always found something i like in every place i went

I know i take things to heart so much and easy get up set by some things, but i know that the people here leave your self to your self when you need

And when you want friend you will find so many people ready to help and always with a kind word.

Just for me Hua Hin the best place on earth now

please Hua Hin never change to much

the best thing about HH is the people , modern enough but not money grabbing like pattaya or Bkk , but not 100 years behind like way up north , but nearly always so pleasant and happy that it can only rub off on you

Yes, HH is great place. It's the acceptable face of ex-pat culture blending with the Thai - through mutual respect.

I hate it when foreign tourists forget that they are guests in someone else's country, and while everyone is not perfectly behaved in HH, it's a darn sight better than all the big name destinations.

It's also good that the Thai scam merchants see few pickings in HH - and tend to go elsewhere.

The same applies to the girls - while there are a few hardened and mercenary ladies around, most leave town for richer pickings elsewhere, leaving girls who, by and large, prefer to be treated like girlfriends rather than sex machines.

Respect earns respect!

I like Uncle Tom's take on this topic...I think the reason I am interested in visiting HH is because I am looking for a good time in a mellow spot...I've always had a great time in Pattaya, but occasionally it is just a little much...I want a great beach to relax on, and good, but not necessarily crazy, nightlife to meet nice girls in.... and I always enjoy meeting the local expats...more about this later, in another post... :)
