Korat buses..Good bus/Bad bus..

Any regulars here in HH will have at one time spotted the 6-wheel big Blue/White buses on
Petkasem Rd sporting a snazzy HUA HIN-KORAT logo down the side.
Nice looking buses, well due to my car not quite being road-worthy I decided to take a trip to
Korat on the afore-mentioned jallopy.

*PLUS-SIDE... 3 buses leaving each morning..7.8, & 10.00.
Fair price.
Luggage labeling.
Nice view from upstairs.
*DOWN SIDE...Air-con set on minimum.
Stops about 10-12 times.
Takes 7 hours due to going via Ratchaburi,& Nakon Pratom.
(this was the worst)..
...4 out of the 7hrs had back-to-back Thai soap episodes with volume cranked
right up c/w sound-effects from a cross between Tom+Jerry/Whacky-Races
in your face due to TV screens+speakers throughout the deck!

Now I'm not that stoopid, I do realise most HH expats drive round in new Fronteras,Vigos,D-Maxes etc.
BUT FOR THOSE WHO WOULD NEED TO TAKE A BUS..
..THERE IS ANOTHER PLAYER IN THE GAME..
Each evening from the new bus station a proper VIP bus leaves at 7.00 bound for Korat,
Then goes on to Surin, terminating in Ubon.
This bus is about 200b more per person mind.
* PLUS SIDE... Best seats on any bus in the country (leather with soft head-rests).
Heaps of leg-room.
Personal TVs in seat-back. (Films in Thai tho')
Free Wi-Fi
5 & half hours to Korat (Uses most direct route).
Cool, but not freezing..17-21'.
*DOWN SIDE..
...Due to using headphones it is generally quiet thru' the journey,
EXCEPT..Thai women have their ringtones on full vol, and always shout when talking
to their families.
Not much food given, so take extra on-board with you.
This bus is the 'Big Daddy'..speed-wise it does not hang-around..
..3 drivers on each trip tho'.

Korat to HH..the bus leaves about 3.45/4.00 in the afternoon, & back to HH about 9-9.30pm.
Price about 550b.
Ticket office number in Korat is 255555.
Check at new bus-station in HH for ticketing here.
(This bus goes on to Phuket from HH each evening Southbound..about 9.30)
This IS a comfortable ride aboard this bus)

I've used the other one a few times, I think they're OK.
Pretty sure they go every hour now BTW, there's certainly buses in the evening.

The cheaper bus is fine if you catch the 9pm, quiet and cool all the way, Thais need their blankets round them.

I think the OP is saying 550 baht is the price to/from Korat. My question was how much to Surin or further? I'm presuming it won't be the same price?

OP also stated that this was an evening service, so I was asking if anyone knew of any other times for this new service all the way to Ubon.

Oh the wonders of marrying a monkey... you get to travel to monkey Island a few times a year.

Yes ,I too, can mix with the people up North.. it certainly ain't something to be applauded for as all it is ,is having the ability to lower your standard of living to that of a dog, and you'll be fine... hence some farangs are able to do this.... you get all sorts that come here and the fact that some CAN lower their standards to that much... sticky rice and whatever's on the menu... is a prime example of the common muck that you get crawling out here unable to afford as much as a good night out.

REAL Thais are appauled and humiliated (as a Thai looking at another Thai) when they see some Issaan lass suddenly upped on the ladder of society due to marrying some old farang. Both you and her 'will' and 'should' be shunned by the decent Thai population out here. If you want to marry a Thai don't have one that's in it for the money and you won't be laughed at - simple as!

I 'too' am partial to sticky rice, but not because it's the only thing on the menu with a few spices and half a rat.

There is a certain 'order of command' here that most of you can't seem to get your head round. You go and get a girl of the lowest pecking order possible, then expect other Thai's to accept that. Mr. Plums recent post about his girl being shunned at the dinner table because she was dark skinned was a prime example.... she deserved to be shunned as she should not be sitting at that table amongst people of a greater wealth. Mr Plums reply to them that they better not display that kind of comtempt again otherwise there will not be another meeting was probably met with sighs of relief.... I'm sure they were all pretty embarrassed to be sat at the table with that status.

It's the equivalent of myself going to England and picking up some crackhead bint off the streets and bringing her to an exquisite ball attended by the rich and wealthy.... would stick out like a sore thumb and wouldn't be welcome.

I'm all for the fact that some of you have managed to find a half attractive girl by picking her up from the squat that is Isaan but at least know your's and her place from that point on... Don't... please dont try to mix with people higher in the pecking order as it isn't just embarrasing for you ( as you don't even seem to realise the embarrasment it's causing) but it's a damn site more embarrasing for the others attending.

It has everything to do with the bus service as the only reason farangs are taking that service is because they've hooked up with a girl there.... I am only illustrating the point to the other few million clueless farangs that there are far better fish in the sea.... you don't need to marry the lowest class person there is just because she calls you handsome..... have fun with her.... don't marry her
