Laotian girl cut in half by speeding Porche
Re: Laotian girl cut in half by speeding Porche
Again and again, wealthy Thais, with the aid of the police and the legal system in Thailand are immune to the law. Surely this happens in every country in the world, but in Thailand it's turning into an art form. Please excuse the last sentence for it's apparent lack of care for the deceased and her relatives but the fact is these wealthy snobs feel so entitled and above the law they could care less if a lower class Thai is murdered at their hands.
Do any of us really think that those who govern and police this wonderful country give a damn about this poor girl? They show everyone, day in an day out, that money talks, and if it's old money it speaks volumes. Every time we hear of one of these dastardly miscarriages do we hear anything even close to an apology or promise of justice for the poor souls who are murdered by these heartless bastards? No. The police "will investigate". The police "will issue an arrest warrant" ............right. The police will do what they always do here........not a blessed thing.
Will the Prime Minister, the District Governor, or The Police Chief do anything to assuage the relatives of the victims? Not likely. Will they even promise to try? Nope. They just don't give a damn......if they did we would not all be up in arms for the umpteenth time it's happened.
The only suggestion I can think of is for anyone who knows ANY of the "upper class" to hound them to start looking at their consciences and their hearts for a solution to such an uncaring and lawless class of CRIMINALS.......reminding them that failing to pursue and prosecute these villains, who are no doubt relatives or close friends, is just as abhorrent as those that did the deed themselves.
How about anyone who knows the editors or owners of the Bangkok Post asking them to start printing on a daily basis the identities and status of the criminals who are violating the law every day they fail to appear to answer for their murders or for being accomplice to those murders. Perhaps the same request could be made to anyone who publishes, owns, or is involved in media relations in Thailand.
I wish I had the money to put a daily full page ad in the newspapers, in Thai and English, abusing the likes of these scoundrels and begging those in power to stop this inhumane treatment of their own citizens......... reminding them that those who aren't residing in the upper class are still human beings, with feelings, anguish beyond comprehension and the right to be treated as something more than the daily trash.
Well, I can't think of any other way to rant about this. It's high time somebody took some action against the evil bastards and I'm willing to help if anyone has an idea of how to do it.

Each time this sort of thing happens and is reported all over everywhere, the more the average person's spite builds for such a class of arrogant criminals. No wonder there are so many locals against/pissed off with the system here and those that run it, as it's obviously rotten to the core really. Even the people in the villages can see it as TV media/Internet etc is everywhere now, can't just sweep stuff under the carpet and nobody will know.
It's stuff like this that fan the flames of resentment in the normal world of the majority that aren't from the snob section of society, and even though many accept their lot here, this is often a way change/revolutions occure (through the sheer contempt for the privileged/those that wield power) and which it could be argued that they already have faced one attempted one recently and they've done nothing to address the obvious problems that have helped it occure.
It's just gone quiet for a while but the feeling/resentment is still simmering away in many places, easy to see.
My wife was telling me that the girl's mother said on Thai TV today that these people think they are so high but actually they are the dogs really.
Couldn't agree more!

He's turned himself in, barely an adult at 19, but an adult none the less. To me the article reads between the lines that the Father will likely pay big compensation to the Lao family, and I assume they will accept as poor families usually do. Case then closed. Pete

This happens all the time, but I'm afraid most of us won't still be around to see any significant change. I know one thing though, it it was my daughter that was killed, the driver would stand trial in my court, where I am the prosecutor, the jury, and the judge, and if found guilty, he would pay for it with his own life. Sometimes it becomes necessary to take the law into your own hands.

Re: Laotian girl cut in half by speeding Porche
I’ve been thinking a lot about this dreadful accident and how awful it must have been for everyone involved. I don’t know if the true, or full, facts will ever emerge but as far as I see it the poor lass crossed an extremely busy road and possibly misjudged the speed of the Porsche. The driver of the car said he was doing 120kmph – how true that is we’ll probably never know, but it’s the speed most Thai drivers do (especially in a sports car) along that kind of road. If she had been hit by an SUV or pick-up she would have still been killed, but probably not in such a gruesome way. The fact that it was a sports car, and having a low bumper, meant it caused the horrific injuries. It could happen to any of us who drive in Thailand and have seen Thais running across busy highways. It scares me rigid.
I fully agree that the lad shouldn’t have driven away, but I guess he was in a state of shock and panic. I’ve read about countless accidents where the ‘unknown’ driver has done a runner. If it had been a poorer Somchai in his unlicenced car, with no driving licence, he would have probably ran away and would never been found – this probably happens every day, but because it’s a rich family everyone’s out to get them. You can’t really compare it with someone driving onto the pavement hitting people waiting for a bus.
I know it’s no compensation, but at least the family will get some money.

Not really Spitfire - I guess it comes from past experience. When I was about 10 years old I ran across a not very busy road without looking. I should have. I cut my hand on the driver's door and fell over. He stopped and asked my name and address and if I was OK. I was fine, except for a cut finger, and off he drove. I walked the rest of the way home feeling embarrassed and stupid at having done such a stupid thing.
I obviously didn't tell mum and dad or they would have given me a right telling-off for not looking left, right, left again. Ten minutes later there was a knock at the door, and the man wanted to know if I was OK. The cat was out of the bag! I really got it in the ear for a) not telling them what happened, and b) crossing the road without looking.
This poor lass probably did what I did many years ago, but on a much more dangerous road.

Sorry V.S., but you don't cut someone in half doing 120 kph. The Cayenne is not a low slung sports car, but a solidly built S.U.V. about the size of a Fortuner. His speed was certainly well in excess of 120.
There is no excuse for someone murdering a pedestrian and running away to Chiang Mai......with the permission of his parents no less.
Giving these teenagers who recklessly endanger everyone on the highway a free pass for murder and hit and run is just ridiculous. How about expecting some personal responsibility from the upper class instead of their usual attitude of being above it all.
Is this the way you would teach your children to behave?

TIGR: I think the car was a Cayman not a Cayenne. Why Porsche picked similar names for totally different models is beyond me. But I do agree that running away to Chiang Mai was a ridiculous thing to do.

Exactly; who would be mad enough to give a Porsche Cayman to a teenager to drive?Giving these teenagers who recklessly endanger everyone on the highway a free pass for murder and hit and run is just ridiculous. The guy apologised... it was an accident which of course he didn't want to happen.
120 km per hour well that's slow really as Buksida (a Moderator of this forum) say's that 140km per hour is quite acceptable and even compared the speed to that of a milkman.
So Buksida... this guy was SPEEDING and killed a poor girl. Is 140 kmph still an acceptable speed to travel at or am I still 'Mr Old Grumpy Man' that thinks everything is going too fast?

If it's within arms reach, there's nothing to worry about!!
Re: Laotian girl cut in half by speeding Porche
Dork, speed has never killed anyone, its the stopping that does it. In this case the additional factors of an inexperienced driver in a high powered sports car also came into play.
Driving at 87 miles per hour when road, traffic and weather conditions permit is not a hanging offence.
Driving a crusty old fully loaded pickup with no brakes two inches from the car in front at that speed should be - as would driving a performance car at well over the legal speed limit through city streets. There is a time and place for everything and common sense is the keyword here.
