Ranong Visa Run

Post by ladybiker »

Has anyone driven between Chumphon and Ranong in the last two/three days, due to the weather situation is the road open and safe. Would appreciate up to date info.

Thanks

I don't think you're going to find anyone who has done it as many roads have been impassable. Here's an advisory from yesterday and both Chumphon and Ranong are mentioned. Pete

Slightly off topic but Chumphon really does seem to suffer a huge amount of flooding on a regular basis doesn't it? OK yes location and run-off will probably account for it. But I remember some horrendous problems there over the years. One time a hotel lift went on auto down to the basement due to a 'safety' power cut off and drowned all the occupants in the lift.
Shopkeepers spend months cleaning up flood damaged goods only to be flooded again. It must be one of the worst places in the LOS for flood damage and yet it happens year after year...TIT. :banghead:

I set off from Phuket on Tuesday but the road between Surat Thani and Chumphon was closed so stayed overnight in ST. Set out again early wednesday and made it through but it was not a pleasant experience, the stretch between ST and Chumphon took 4 hours!
The road going South from here was OK as far as the Ranong turning, don't think you'll have too many problems there, after that not sure but I would guess you'll be fine as you head up into the hills.
