More furniture questions from a newbie

Post by MLS »

First, I'd like to say thanks for answers to previous questions I've posted recently. I have a couple more, if anyone out there would be kind enough to point me in the right direction:

I've heard there's a workshop selling synthetic rattan outdoor furniture in/near Hua Hin. If that's true, I'd love to know how to contact them, though I suspect their stuff might be pricey (?). I'm not in HH for a while so it will have to be by email/website etc.

Also, once we're back in HH and have above new outdoor furniture we would like to lose the (inherited-with-house) formal dining table and six chairs set that currently reside on the veranda, and figure it might be useful for a charity, e.g. the local orphanage I've read a little about previously on this site. Can anyone let me know the best way to find out who could get most benefit and how to organise?

Many thanks! Appreciate your help...

The orphanage is a good start - otherwise the local Wat would probably be pleased to take any surplus furniture off your hands. The Wats act kind of like a community loan facility, and stock chairs etc to provide to the locals who need stuff temporarily for weddings or funeral ceremonies.
But I'm sorry to say - no offence - I really don't understand why anyone would want synthetic over natural materials in the LOS!
Natural ratten/cane stuff is right for the climate - and it lasts. Any minor repairs needed to the whipping can be easily and cheaply done. Craftsmen regularly trawl the sois offering these services.

hello
Our pool league from Khao takiab ans surrounding area do qyuite a lot for the mercy orphangae in Pranburi, they are a great bunch of kids and i am sure they would welcome any donations as regarding your furniture.
below is the directions and the telephone number.

Here are the directions to the Mercy House Orphanage

Go south towards Pranburi to the traffic lights where Tesco Lotus is.
Keep going straight and you'll see the Post Office on your left.
Keep going until you see a large sign for the company Singer on your left, which is on a corner.
Turn left there into Soi Tessebaan 1. Go as far as the second public telephone box (about 350 m) on the left and behind it you will see a sign pointing right. Go down that littel soi and the orphanage will be in front of you.

Their phone number is 081-9411770

Thanks for your replies. When I'm back in HH and sorted I will contact Mercy House...

Re natural rattan - I hear what you're saying but the thing is I'm looking for maintenance-free outdoor furniture that's going to look new for a long time despite being neglected on the verenda, hence the synthetic option. As it's a holiday home and I'll only be able to get down to HH for short R&R breaks for the foreseeable, the less household chores I have to do/tradesmen appointments to coordinate during my limited stays there the better.

Looking for modular, black cube style all-weather outdoor furniture with removable, washable cushions, and appreciate I need to be prepared to pay a lot for the stuff that comes with a 10-year guarantee. I guess I should check out imported brands, in Bangkok, but I thought I'd heard that there was a local (HH) manufacturer.
