No discrimination at The Hilton

Despite all the negative posts on here, the Hilton is the most popular nightspot in town for the mixed Thai/Farang crowd.
Personally I hate the music, but it is mainstream, it is what the Thai's want to hear. What are they supposed to do ? Play music their customers do not want to hear ?
As for prices, it's all relative, it's no more expensive than any other nightclub located in a 5* hotel anywhere else in the world (ie: about double the price of the local bars). In fact, it's probably cheaper than the clubs back home relatively, as it's free to get in (free drink token and all that).
What's the alternative ? the karaoke bars, save 60 Baht a beer, but spill half of it when a row kicks off next to you ??
The Thai clubs where you are clearly not welcomed by the Thai men (don't blame em at all) ??

I liked the Hiton, was not charged to get in, thank god, as i was taking my girl and 3 of her friends

Liked the band, and there was room to dance a bit.

I will check out the other loactions and see if they are any better

150 bath is no more than £2.50 so the cost not great

and the drinks are the normal of a club here in uk. so no problem there.

But i guess some people want something for nothing and would never be happy with free.

Well, i can't agree more with the fact that we are paying a fraction as compare to any club back home but is it worth the money to at least enjoy the nite as a first timer?

I haven't checked back on this whole thread for a while but I believe it has been said already that the Hilton is great for holidaymakers but awful, most of the time, for those of us who live in Hua Hin. Some of this comes down to pure economics, as in when you normally pay 60 - 70 baht for a bottle of beer, which is already expensive relative to other things here (food, accommodation, clothes) and the Hilton charges double, some of it is down to hearing the same thing played every night by both the band and the DJ, even if you only go there once every 6 months, some of it is because you are already on nodding terms (or more!) with many of the girls that go there, and some of it is that you can have an equally good time somewhere else, but the major thing for us residents is that the Hilton blocks anyone else from setting up in competition, and have such huge influence on what goes on (or not) in the town. I guess we are just voting with our feet, and how can the tourists be expected to find anywhere else? There are other 'nightclubs' but they don't come close to catering for farang (not that they have to) so all that is left is the Hilton (or to be more correct 'The Hua Hin Brewing Company'). Hobson's choice I call it!

Im new to the HH scene, but 150 does not sound to much for me, when you also get a drink for that prize, in nana disco in bkk they demand 400 these days, there you also get one drink, but it seems that HH is less expensive than other places

Maybe, but the hilton music is far worse than Nana disco as i recall the music is terrible in there also

5555 i dont mind the music, in nana, but again, we can not all like the same music, but i will let you know what i think about the music in hilton when i come back.

Those who complain about prices of drinks anywhere in HH or any of the 5 star hotels there should just try and remmember just how much you pay for the same drinks in pubs and clubs where you live.

I like to drink Heinikin when in HH, because at between 100-120baht it only equates to about $3.50 Aussie Dollars a bottle. Anywhere in Perth, you will pay at least double that in a pub and even more in a night club.
A pint of decent beer in any pub in Perth will cost the equivilant of 270baht at least (I hope Ken at Crawfords does see this before I get there in a couple of weeks)

For those who live there, I can understand your comments, as probably your income may not allow you to be doing that all the time. But those who are on holidays, I cannot see where your complaints can lie.

One of the main reasons that I come to Thailand other than the friendly people is because with the exchange rate, I can afford to have a great holiday, eat and drink how I want and enjoy myself fully.

Try going to Singapore and spending two weeks there eating a drinking. I stayed there for two nights on my way to Thailand last year and what I spent in two nights there I had trouble spending in a week in Thailand.

My advice is if you cant afford it dont go.

You are right about the difference for those that live here and those who come on holiday (although I've met some South Africans who said Thailand is expensive relative to home!); however you must really like expensive (relatively) places because the last time I looked the general price for a Heineken was 70 baht in most places, if we are talking a small bottle. The easiest way to understand how expensive the Hilton is in comparison to other places in Hua Hin/Thailand is that they charge 60 baht for a small bottle of water, and none of your fancy stuff either! For those of you that do want to go, the best value drink the last time I went, some time ago, was a large Chang for (IIRC) 120 baht, but I'm not sure they still sell it.
One final point - whenever you are in a foriegn country, whether as a holidaymaker or permanently, you should try to think in the local currency and make local comparisons, because otherwise you are likely to get ripped off, and also make it harder for others who visit after you. I've often been chastised by girlfriends here for leaving 10% tips rather than just the standard 20 baht!
