Swimming Pool Decking

Anyone know where i can purchase timber decking in Hua Hin?

Not sure where, but have you done research and have you considered any other material? Besides the termite problem here, wood that is exposed to sun and rain has to be completely refinished annually.

Yes, you can get teak for a fortune and the #2 level hardwood, the name of which I forget, but any moisture in it whatsoever and it's in the sun the boards will curl on the ends and edges,even the 3/4 and 1" thick variety. If in the shade and out of the rain, like under a sala, much better chance of fewer problems and re-coating only about every 2-3 years.

You can't just slap the boards onto concrete or dirt, you'll need cross supports to fasten the boards to making the deck raised up a few inches. The wood for those supports is more critical than the deck itself concerning termites, contact with water etc. Fasteners need to be stainless, cadmium or ceramic or they'll waste away.

I know that some resorts have wooden decks around their pools and they look beautiful. They don't have a problem with labour and cost to maintain though. Pete

Yes, we put wood decking around ours when we first built the house (from that 'Golden Wood' shop that's closed now), but it was a nightmare to keep looking anywhere near respectable, and took it up after about 18 months and sandwashed it. Which we've just taken up and tiled

I'd really give serious consideration to a finish other than wood, unless you can get the expensive teak option.

Thanx for the advice,yes i realise there is a termite problem in Thailand,my lady had a house in Suphanbury and had a huge problem with them,i have a concrete small pool 5x3,but it has been constructed above ground? looks shite,obviously they hit solid rock,and could not be bothered removing the rock.i need to come off my rear balcony to the edge of the pool,and then deck around the edges to make it look a lot better than it does.Maybe have to put the thinking cap on again? thanx again for all member info.

Teak will do the job but it will cost you a fair amount. Also, if you do go with teak, you may want to consider treating with teak oil or something similar rather than using varnish. Have you considered stamped concrete? You get some really great looking finishes, and it basically lasts a lifetime. As far as I know, prices start at around 700 baht per square meter.

these guys are advertising in one of the local magazines.
they are not in Hua Hin but im guessing they travel.
the timber decking is the same stuff they use in Oz. Treated pine.

dont know the cost per meter, if anyone finds out please post here

Even though treated, pine is soft. How long before our super Asian termites get into it? I imagine some kind of follow up injection treatments would be needed every few years? Pete
