Free-standing AC?
Free-standing AC?
I'm looking for one of those AC you can move from room to room. I'm aware they're not incredibly effective, but I don't want to pay for a wall AC, since I'm renting and I'm not sure how long I'm staying in this house. I don't need anything too big, since it's only for one room --The other rooms in the house have their own AC. A portable AC can move with me to the next house. I've been looking all over and can't seem to find one. Any ideas?

Try in front of Home Pro upstairs at Tesco Lotus Maket Villiage, as like last week saw some dam effective units that were not true A/C, but refridgerated dripping water, over which the air flowed, but was then filtered, so not actual humififies, just cold air. You can even place a couple of those freezer blocks in the water chamber for extra cold....okay.

Thanks. That's probably even better (cheaper to run). Just outside Home Pro, right?allan_leigh wrote:Try in front of Home Pro upstairs at Tesco Lotus Maket Villiage, as like last week saw some dam effective units that were not true A/C, but refridgerated dripping water, over which the air flowed, but was then filtered, so not actual humififies, just cold air. Cool, pun intended on A/C, air cooling, just hope they still there, or a display from Home Pro, so you can get what you seek.

Re: Free-standing AC?
I have seen them in Tesco and HomePro in different cities and think they come in at about 7-9k Thai baht which I think kick out about 7-8 thousand BTUs, not 100% sure on the BTUs but it's something like that.

I recall there was some discussion about these evaporative coolers before on HHAD and the point was made that they would just end up increasing the room humidity and discomfort unlike a proper a/c.chopsticks wrote:dotx wrote:Thanks. They are quite impressive though when you stand in front of one, compared to a normal fan, as well as costing a lot less to purchase and lower in electricity costs
Re: Free-standing AC?
I get your point.
But these are not like the older type evaporative air coolers, which I checked rather thoroughly.
Not being a refrigeration tech. and not being sure of the how gas filled air cons function.
As opposed to these newer units, ensureing the air is filtered and not humidified.
But merely flows over cooled water, to cool the air.

Have not seen one here, but dimplex make one where the condenser sits out side your window and the gas exchange is made via 2 hoses about 2 inches round, tape up the gap with gaffa tape, cut a metal bar so no theifs can get in and away you go. They are just over 1 and 3/4 horses. And are portable, so you can take it with you. Try contact the website, there maybe a distributer around

They are efficient but they are inconvenient. You need to get the exhaust hose to blow the air outside and you need a small bucket for the overflow.

I have seen them in Makro's in Pranburi. They look like they have upgraded them, a lot more modern than the ones we tried in Philippines a few years ago!

I was in market viliage yesterday 21 April, and my memory is stuffed, or display moved.
But the display I was talking about is now out the front of Tesco
