Where to find chinese and orential spices
Where to find chinese and orential spices
Was trying to find something different than local curry pasta (curcuma, badiane, garam massale, ras el hanout, star anise ...). I had a look at Chatchai market but see nothing.
Any idea or better to wait for next travel to the BKK Chinatown ?

What type of food do you want to cook?
Re: Where to find chinese and orential spices
Makro in Pranburi has a bunch of stuff, you can get most things for a decent curry (cumin seeds, coriander, turmeric, garam) but for stuff like black mustard seeds and fenugreek may need a trip elsewhere.

I don't know what goes into those, but as already said, Makro carries a decent range of spices.

I am not sure if you want chinese spice for that. Villa Maroc Pranburi, 165/3 Moo 3, Paknampran, Pranburi, Hua Hin 77220 Thailand may put you in the right direction for spice.ExPatoche wrote:lomuamart wrote:What type of food do you want to cook?

There are very few shops in the 'China Town' part of HH - it's mainly occupied by the temple. But middle eastern cuisine is widely available in Bangkok so the ingredients must be there as well - somewhere! There used to be a small shop on Sukhumvit about opposite Robinsons - just at the bottom of the BST entrance. Don't know if it's still there and must admit I didn't notice it last year - but if you do need to go to Bangkok for stuff thats the area to look around. Plus Foodland Patpong and Villa Sukhumvit 11.

If you really want Chinese spices, have a look at the Chinese Pharmacy at the corner of Chomsin and Phetkasam Rd. This one is the oldest Chinese Pharmacy in HuaHin..ExPatoche wrote:Was trying to find something different than local curry pasta (curcuma, badiane, garam massale, ras el hanout, star anise ...). It's a long, long way off yet unfortunately, but the Long Haired General and I will be there over Christmas. Obviously we bring a number of spices for ourselves, but would be happy to include some extras...... you MUST try the Chongqing ''Hotpot'' mix - seriously!
We'll have plenty of room on our way over, but trust me.... the LHG has taken care of that on the return trip!!
PM me if you want/need anything in particular, and I'll see what I can do...... will cost you a pint of course!!

Thanks ImThai..........I have always smelled curry near that corner and yet whenever I've looked, I've never seen anyone selling any spices. Now that I know where the smell is coming from, I'll stop in there today.
