I am looking to work and stay in hua hin for a long period of time. Can anyone suggest an apartment ? I am looking at spending around 5,000 baht per month, what type of apartment would I get for that price? Also do most places require a hefty deposit? Any replies much appreciated.
There are plenty of places to rent in town. As has been said before, your best bet is to stay at a guesthouse/hotel first and look around yourself.
Places can be found for 5,000 but they won't be in the centre of town - maybe 10-15 mins by motorbike. Not sure if they'd be funnished. I'm not really up on condos/appartments, so can't advise you on rent.
Deposits vary, but you should be able to get away with 1/2 mths. Negotiate, and get a Thai to do it for you, unless you speak the lingo well. The longer you pay rent upfront- ie monthly, 3 mths or 6 etc - will give you a better platform from which to negotiate.

There are prob a few but one that springs to mind is 'Sport Villa' which during low season is about 6000 per month. For that you get a furnished 35msq room with a toilet/bathroom. They have 2 x swimming pools a laundry and a restaurant. There is no deposit. The rent is paid on a monthly basis.
