I can't help you on tailors or gyms as I've never used either in Hua Hin, but as to the city changing since 2008, you shouldn't find it too much different.
I'm back around four times a year, so I always look out for changes and the only really major one I can think of in the last three years is that Saturkan Square, the small complex of open air restaurants in the centre of town has been replaced by a small shopping centre.
More bars aimed at the Bangkok Thai market have sprung up but most of these are out on Pethakasem road and haven't really changed the city as such.
The city is expanding to the North and West along the main roads but the city centre and beach area hasn't changed much.

Hi ahandpatsy,

I only wear shorts, t-shirts, and flip-flops here so I can't recommend a tailor for a suit, but there are several gyms. I'm not sure which ones offer a one week membership but you should look at the gym on the mezzanine level of the Hilton, a gym about a kilometer up soi 94, and the one on the third floor of Market Village Mall. Maybe one of them will give you the temporary membership... I believe they are all air-conditioned.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

thanks for the feedback on the gyms's. I imagine the Hilton would be quite pricey, I will go and investigate them all on my first day.

Thanks for the recomendation on the tailor. Out of all the tailors in Hua Hin Mike's was the place I used 6 years ago. I was very happy with them, I just wondered if there was anybody else.

Think maybe I got lucky last time.

cheers

Hilton last time I looked about 2,200 baht a month (Don't think you can get week passes)

Sport Villa about 900 baht a month or 50 or 80 baht a day (ones swimming and the other gym) not sure which way round.

The Tailor we have used a few times is called Alba Mode he is opposite the Clock Tower, He is Nepalese and his Grandfather was a Ghurka who fought for the Brits in WW2.
Always made us very welcome and we were very happy with his work.

They probably met their "Prince Charming", got married, and are living happily ever after. :D

How much are we talking (approx) for a suite and/or shirts at ''Mike The Tailor'' or ''Alba Mode''?

Stick to the bigger, well established tailors and you should be ok.
Be aware of a recent issue about tailors....
There are some tailors who will, early on in the conversation try to find out how long you are staying for. The suit will be late in its delivery to the point of delivery an hour before you leave for the airport. When you get home and check the quality, it can be different to what you ordered and paid for.
Visit several shops before you buy and remember that if something is cheap - why is it so cheap?

It's changed ownership but is still basically the same at the moment, at least last month anyway.
