Weather in Hua Hin & Thailand
Re: Weather in Hua Hin & Thailand
Well, the mood in our house was lightened last night when I ignored my own 'never fart during the first week in Thailand' rule and loudly followed through whilst playing Scrabble with my 9 year old son. He thought it was hilarious! Weather glorious all day today.
Re: Weather in Hua Hin & Thailand
The rain must be localized. On Soi 80 where I live, it hasn't rained every day. I've not kept a record, but I'd say maybe three (or four?) times this past week? (Including a shower at around 7pm this evening that lasted less than 30 minutes.)

May is the second wettest month after September, so what did you actually expect?

Hua Hin looks dry per the current radar but the eastern seaboard and I believe Bangkok are getting ripped. It's been raining sideways here since midnight, and a great thunder and lightening show. If I had to guess looking at my overflowing pool and other containers, about 20cm in the last four hours.

Not really for over here 6-8" is common when the storms roll in off the gulf from the southwest this time of year. This one is still going after 5 hours, but not at gale strength any longer. Delightfully cool and fresh though.Korkenzieher wrote:Crikey. That's a lot!

I await what Nereus has to say about Bangkok. Pete

Rained over night, and a small thunderstorm. About 4 /8 cloud cover and no rain, or threat at the moment. Nothing like what you have described, Pete.

Re: Weather in Hua Hin & Thailand
I've come to realize during these storms that I probably have one of the biggest rain gauges in the world with my overflow pool. When filters off, the water level settles at the pool top edge. When rain starts the level rises and flows into the trough that surrounds the pool, and then into the 5,000+- liter overflow tank. I always leave that 20-30cm from totally full to take any water from the rains. Very little if any run off from the perimeter sand wash walkways so my rainfall estimate should be pretty accurate when I see where the level is as compared to before the storm started. The tank was about 30CM from the top yesterday afternoon, and overflowing at 0400 this morning. Considering walkway runoff into the trough, my estimate of a 20-25cm storm is close to accurate IMO. Aha! I had to look at your profile, prcscct, to see just where you were. Rayong?
You posted at 358am that it had been raining sideways since midnight, and I was *pretty* sure I was up that entire time (in Hua Hin) with no rain or thunder. NOW I understand!

Yes, Rayong. I've waited 24 hours and no engineers have caught my flawed logic concerning my rain measurement. I think my holding tank would need to be the same length and width as my pool to get an accurate measurement. I have one large surface area draining into a much smaller surface area.

Found this on another forum, it updates every 30 minutes or so and shows current cloud cover which will indicate the chance of a shower, not sure how accurate it will be for here though:

Hua Hin is pretty much where the outer blue circle bisects the coast at the top of the map.
The actual page for HH is less impressive: http://www2.tmd.go.th/radar/hhn.php

Christ it's hot.
Re: Weather in Hua Hin & Thailand
^ Yes, you know how much I love the hot weather here and it has been even hotter than I ever remember for the last couple of weeks.

My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

BaaBaa, read about the German restaurant in the food forum... is only about a kilometer from your house, soi 91 is soi 116 on the other side of Petchkasem!
