double entry 60 day tourist visa
double entry 60 day tourist visa
I have a double entry tourist 60 day visa. My 1st 60 days will expire on 8th May.
My question is, if I leave Thailand by train to Malaysia before this date and then return to Thailand again by train how many days will I then be allowed to stay in Thailand?
I am 50+, married and have return flight to UK booked for 6th June.
Thank you to anyone who can help me with this.

Re: double entry 60 day tourist visa
A 60 day entry on a Tourist visa can be extended by 30 days at any Imm office here in Thailand. Cost 1,900 THB. All you need is the passport, photocopies of the details page, the visa, the entry stamp and the departure card, the relevant form filled in and a passport sized photo.
By my reckoning, another 30 days from the 8th May takes you to the 7th June (certainly the 6th June if the first day of extension is counted from date of application).
So, no border run necessary. If you do want to leave the country at any stage, you'll get another 60 days on re-entry to Thailand that can also be extended by 30 days. Just make sure that the visa itself is still valid when you return. That date will be on the visa itself.
Looking at the calandar, the 8th May is a Sunday so Imm will be closed. However, it dosn't matter. Just turn up on the 5th or 6th and your 30 day extension will run from the 8th anyway. You don't lose any time by applying early.

Re: double entry 60 day tourist visa
Hi,
I, too, have a 60-day double entry visa. I entered on May 19th, and will exit Thailand on July 15, re-entering on July 17 (then Im good for another 60-days).
My question: does it matter that I am going over land when I re-enter Thailand. I have the visa, so no matter what route I take back into the Kingdom (land or air), they will stamp me for another 60 days?
Is this right?
Thanks so much.

Re: double entry 60 day tourist visa
Jeremy, you are fine. The 60-day visa obtained outside Thailand means it does not matter how you enter or exit: train, bus, boat, air are all ok.
The means of travel is relevant only when you have entered on a 30-day visa exempt stamp. If so and you exit by land then you will get only 15 days coming back in. This is done to crack down on the 30-day people who have basically been living in Thailand full time.
A 60-day double entry visa can be turned into a near-6 month stay quite easily.

Re: double entry 60 day tourist visa
Johnnyk - elaborate please! I know with a 1 year multi, which basically carries 90 day reporting with it, that it is possible to leave and re-enter on the last day of the visa, in which caae you get another 90 days, pushing the life of the thing out to 15 months. How does this work with a 60? Do you get another full 60 days on each entry?

Re: double entry 60 day tourist visa
Whoa, Korky, all johnny meant was that a double-entry 60 day visa gets you 60 days, which can be extended by... 15 or 30 days? Not sure. Then you leave and on return (anywhere whether overland or by air) get another 60 days, and that can also be extended slightly. No magic, no tricks.
Edit: If you leave the country 5 days after your first arrival, you will simply get another 60 days when you return.

Re: double entry 60 day tourist visa
It was his comment that it can be stretched out to near 6 months if you are careful. Just looking for detail. Does it mean that a 60 day DE is good for 60 days after the 2nd entry? So in reality it is good for 120 days by timing that 2nd entry to the end of the life of the visa (similar to O & ED)? It seems that you are suggesting that is the case, which is good news.

Re: double entry 60 day tourist visa
If you have a double entry tourist visa, you get 60 days on entry, extendable for 30 days at a cost of 1,900 Baht, which gives you 90 days. You do a border crossing and again get 60 days, extendable again for a further 30 days at 1900 Baht. That is 180 days, but at a cost of 3,800 Baht.

May you be in heaven half an hour before the devil know`s you`re dead!
Re: double entry 60 day tourist visa
The double entry TV gives you 60 days on entry. That can be extended by a further 30 days at any Imm office for 1,900 THB. Before that combined 90 days has expired, you exit Thailand and re-enter straight away (if you want) and get a further 60 days that can be extended again by 30 days. So, 180 days in total.
However, you must exit Thailand to activate the second entry before the visa itself expires. Once back here, the fact that your 60 day permitted to stay stamp may extend beyond the visa's validity dosn't matter. The permitted to stay stamp is what matters and can be extended. So, almost 6 months.
Just a point of clarification from one of your earlier posts, Kork, the multi-entry Non O never carries any duty to report every 90 days. You must exit Thailand every 90 days maximum so reporting restrictions never apply.

Re: double entry 60 day tourist visa
@lomuamart - on the exit thing. OK thought this had changed, as they changed it on the ED so that internal Immigration reporting was possible. Assumed it was the case for all Non Imm classes. In any case, I have always done an exit (usually to KL) rather than take up the good fight with Immigration. And I like KL :-)

Re: double entry 60 day tourist visa
The 60-day Double Entry means you can enter twice, each time for 60 days. Arriving in BKK airport counts as the first entry. OK, good for 60 days (the "must leave by" date is entered on the little card you fill out - no excuses for missing it!).Korkenzieher wrote:It was his comment that it can be stretched out to near 6 months if you are careful. But if you don't want to exit Thailand at that time you can pay 1900 baht at Immig and get 30 days added on. You still have your 2nd entry good for 60 days. OK, now after the 30-day extension you MUST exit Thailand but you have a proper visa so you can do a quick run if you wish, you are legal.
Enter again and you are good for 60 days more but when you get near the end of that period you can go down to Immig again and pay 1900 to stay 30 days more. But that's it on that visa. You can then exit and apply for another visa from abroad but I have not done that so no details.
To conclude: If you time things properly you basically can get 59+29+59+29 days = 176 days legally. The dates can be a bit confusing so I time it to exit or extend one day before the visa expires.
Last trip I mucked up and went over by 1 day on my first entry.
I paid a 500 baht fine at Immig but it did not affect getting the 30-day extension.
Hope this helps.

Re: double entry 60 day tourist visa
I may be being a bit thick here, but please clarify that the first 60 day visa needs to be obtained in your home country. What I'm getting at is that I'm assuming you can't rock up at the airport - get 30 days on entry & then apply for the next 60 in LOS.
I think sex is better than logic, but I can't prove it...
Re: double entry 60 day tourist visa
Obtain it at home, much easier and the visa fee waiver may still be in effect. Otherwise AFAIK you must get the 60-day double entry from abroad.

Re: double entry 60 day tourist visa
Correct. By its very nature, a visa is granted outside of Thailand, not inside.
However, there's nothing to stop you arriving at the airport on a 30 day visa exempt stamp and leaving to Laos, Cambodia or Malaysia to apply for a tourist visa afterwards. A tourist visa can be applied for at any Thai Embassy or consulate. It dosn't have to be from your home country.
Just seen johnnyk's post and would agree that it makes sense to get the visa in your home country first, but it's not necessary. The visa fee waiver finished at the end of March this year.
