Local markets
Local markets
Last year we stayed between HH and Khao Takiab. One afternoon a local market sprang up in what looked like school grounds. We are coming back this year for one month staying in same area. Can anyone tell me which day of the week these markets operate - great fresh produce. Also are there similar markets in Hua Hin on other days? If so where are they located?
Re: Local markets
Different markets different days. There is the nightly tourist market in town.
Thais go to the huge one on Wednesday (I think) just along the canal road by the driving range, instead of going left up Pala-U road veer right instead.
Another good one is Sunday and one other day up soi 56 across the train tracks. Both are authentic, ie. not geared to falangs.

I think you mean Cicada Market Located at Suan Sri Khao Takiab area, in front of Hyatt Regency Hotel.
Have a look at number 5 in the following link. It is very good.

Re: Local markets
We also went to Cicada markets. The local market I was refering to was on the opposite side of the road and about 1/2 kilometer closer to central Hua Hin. was mainly fresh produce etc with only small element of other goods such as clothes.
Re: Local markets
I know it but I can't remember which days it operates. There is another one nearby just over the flyover on the right heading south that seems to open several days a week.
Actually, for those of us that don't spend our time in Thailand between five star golf courses and Tescos, a guide to all the local markets around the area would be very handy, there must be at least ten of them.

Re: Local markets
It depends also what you are shopping for - Pai Mai isn't really much use for food shopping but for clothes, power tools, etc. then great.
The main ones I use are 114 market which is mainly food, and Bonkai (Soi 88. Cross the lines, bear right, then left and it is left behind the 7/11 200m up - weds, thurs & fri I think). There's one up 102 on the left just before the turning to Dara bar (thurs), one at the temple in Khao Takiap on the road past the Oasis cafe (Sundays I think - not sure), one in the angled soi south of 88, which goes past the railway tavern - also Sundays.
ste860 - which is Dinosaur market?

Re: Local markets
Don't think so - that is another market in the school grounds next to the temple opposite the Hyatt. The one I am referring to is right down at the end. To the right of the Police Box, you enter the temple road on the right hand side instead of carrying on down past the Oasis.
Also, not to forget the permanent seafood market in Takiab, but to the left of the Police Box, following on round from the entrance to Yellow Buddha beach towards Monkey Mountain.

Korkenzieher dinosaur market (spelling)on the klang road heading towards imigration ,turn left at the traffic lights ,you cant really miss it follow the bikes and cars, very good for food fruit etc not many clothes etc
Re: Local markets
Thanks all. You have given me a number of leads to follow through. It is primarily fresh food I am looking for although I must admit will be eating out a fair bit given the myriad of good food places in Hua Hin - from street food right up to restaurants.

Shopping? mmmmmmm?????
Go to Pub, secure chair. Write a list (obviously not yourself!) Phone taxi bike and supermarket staff and "Hey Presto" it is in the car before you can blink. Don't forget the stuff they put in the fridge though as it can really mess up dinner plans.

Re: Local markets
Fresh food is everywhere (except Tesco and Villa 555). Most Thais don;t eat the frozen or canned crap beloved by falangs.
