Charaties operating in the local area

Post by Pleng »

In the past I have spent some time arranging events to raise awareness and/or money for local charaties here in the United Kingdom. When I move to Hua Hin I would also like to be able 'give a little back' to the community.

Now, I know Thailand doesn't make it easy to do charity work as a foreigner, and I'll need a work permit to be able to do so, so this means that:

a) I'm going to need to prepare before I get to Thailand and
b) I'll need to carefully choose a charitable organization to align myself with - as all events will need to be done for the same organization (unless I get multiple work permits).

With this in mind does anybody have any favorite charitable organizations which operate in the Hua-Hin district, or the Prachuap Khiri Khan province? Can you tell me a little bit about what it is they do, and why you like them?

I appreciate your ambitions.
This is not a charity organisation but maybe one (among multiple) goals for your kind of activity.
I visited the Paentawang Orphanage in Smorprong (3,5 km NW) last year, founded about 15 years ago by the local catholic church housing children from age 5 to 15 in urgent need of elementaries. Make a visit and enjoy the company of the ambitious and charming kids.
If you like i'll connect you with a dedicated Dutch expat working for their benefits, amongst many other things recently raising a wall around the premises by voluntary muscle powers.

Both seem excellent causes - good luck! :thumb:

I'm sorry, I can't get your link to work, even when I cut, and paste, it doesn't go anywhere.

Rich,

I opened the above link in the UK, and received something completely different to what I expected. I was expecting to see this http://www.huahinmedia.com/connect3e.php . I'm not sure if it's a problem, but you may want to check it out.
