As stated in the linked article, students are expected to interrupt their studies if selected for military service. Katoeys may be exempted if physical changes are evident.

okay im confused one person says some one goes to cadat class from 16 thru 17 to meet commitment then link says they draft at 21. where the missing 3 years go? still suprised they are still eligible in college

The only other thing I was able to find out today was that over the recently ended Thai school summer break, about 40,000 boys applied for the program in the Bangkok area, and a little less than half achieved the academic and physical fitness scores needed. So, it does appear to be competitive and not that easy to get into. Pete :cheers:

They do the cadet program while they're still in High School in the 16-17 age range. They then either go on to work or to college or whatever after they finish High School. The draft selection is a completely separate thing which takes place when a man is 21. Those who had successfully completed the cadet program when 16-17, do not need to participate in the draft selection. Pete :cheers:

found that somtawin offers roh dor program. (they e-mailed me loh dor) they only have 3 kids
enrolled so have combined with other schools the cadets go to local milary base on thursday afternoons
