I think it must be Pete because I eat a lot of rice when I'm in Thailand and I seem to have a monumental hangover nearly every morning!I wonder if the monumental hangover from what we drink here is because of the rice?

Yes Pete, when I first came to Hua Hin I got into drinking with some of my partners friends outside a bar that was run by one of them. I said I would pay for them to party but I wasn't going to run up a ridiculous bill at the bar.
The result was that one of them was dispatched to a local shop to return with eight bottles of Siam Satu which is a pretty disgusting Thai rice wine that used to cost 24bt for a large bottle.
I thought that was it except for the fact that they forced me to drink it as well with the result of probably one of the worst hangovers I've ever had.
The next time I decided that a litre of half decent whisky and a large bottle of cola was a less dangerous option.
I don't think they do Siam Satu light!

Aftre briefly scanning the posts on here, I didn't see anyone saying they had made the change form Chang to Chang light. I'm with HHF on the fact that I just won't add ice to my beer - after over twenty years my stance has not changed on this sensitive area.
I also, religiously, drink 1 litre of water before I go to bed as if it were medicine. If I don't then the 'Changover' will greet me with a fiery fury in the morning.
But, what about the Chang light? Is the taste similiar to the strong taste of the Chang I've grown fond of? Or is it just a watered down version similiar to adding ice to a full strength Chang?

If it's within arms reach, there's nothing to worry about!!
Re: Light beer
Half the cause of a hangover is dehydration, so obviously in a hot environment like Thailand dehydration is going to be even more of a problem, so that's why the "pint of water before bed" is a good idea.E-Dork wrote:I also, religiously, drink 1 litre of water before I go to bed as if it were medicine. If one of your friends passes out before they've had chance to have a pint of water (or even if they have) you can help the hydrate by placing their hand in a bowl of luke water water.
Re: Light beer
I've drank it during the day at but not many bars or shops stock it so I've had to buy it by the case from the wholesaler.I didn't see anyone saying they had made the change form Chang to Chang light.

Enjoying 'Retirement'....So many jobs to do, I don't know how I ever had time to work!
Re: Light beer
Dehydration is progressive over days or more and can really kick the hangover in and worse so good advice on the water before bed, also with spirits and wine drink water alongside it. Anyway I am going to have a glass of "light" red wine. Well the box is lighter than it was earlier anyway.

Seriously though it's important not to get dehydrated as it can effect your health. So make sure you're pee is not too dark, if it is drink plenty of water or the gaterade / powerade drinks are quite good too.

Coconut water is the best!

It's nature's sports/energy drink!

My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

Re: Light beer
OK, last week on another thread I mentioned I was enjoying San Miguel bottled gold label original pale lager. Today I bought some San Miguel Light (silver/blue label). Alcohol 5%, just like the aforementioned I think, but states "less calories", although nothing I can find telling you the calorie content.
The Light says "pale pilsen beer", and for the sake of conversation can anyone tell us the difference between a bottled Lager and a bottled Pilsen?
Seems strange to me that a brewery in Thailand would go to the trouble of different brewing methods for their regular vs light beers. Maybe not that difficult or costly, I don't know.
The taste of the San Miguel Light is not bad, although you ( I ) don't really feel like I'm drinking beer, it's way too light for me, more light than Leo for sure. Good, but not very satisfying. Pete

Re: Light beer
Love San Miguel PP, but not the San Mig Light. I find Tiger Crystal (Tiger Light) much better.
Had enough of the trolls. Going to sleep. I may be some time....
Re: Light beer
Pilsen refers to a bottom-fermented beer of a style first produced in the city of that name in Czechoslovakia.(Plzeň)The Light says "pale pilsen beer", and for the sake of conversation can anyone tell us the difference between a bottled Lager and a bottled Pilsen?
Lager refers to the old process of storing beer in cool caves as 'lager' is German for store.
In other words a beer can be both at the same time and the naming seems to be just a case of marketing.

Re: Light beer
Tried it once. It was like drinking pretend beer. Being a real ale fan I like a beer with taste, and, quite frankly, you don't get any taste with light beers. Being a Brit, Steve, you're probably used to good tasting beer. I'd rather, personally, drink a nice tasting beer in smaller quantities than a lower alcohol beer in larger quantities.STEVE G wrote:What about Chang Light?
