Local advice for farangs from farangs.

Post by raphoe »

Any one agree that, with growth of visitors to Hua Hin or LOS in general, it would be usefull and benificial in terms of repeat custom / visits if there was a farang friendly tourist info. place.
What I'm suggesting is not a travel agents but somewhere that would give advice as to how to take care in LOS and how to enjoy LOS to the max.

I've had some good and bad advice, mostly the former but I was lucky in as much as I tarvelled with my mate and his Thai wife.

Most of the Hua Hin related advice you can find on this forum. In fact pretty much anything Thai related will also be answered here too as many of our members have lived in LOS for several years.

Most good guidebooks such as Lonely Planet will cover the basic essentials for the novice traveller to Thailand.

[/sizeMy advise to Raphoe at the particular time of his post, had I been a member then, would have been " you're in the the right place already" www.huahinafterdark.com/forum/posting.com. It doesn't get any better. :thumb:

Farang Info re pitfalls

Post by raphoe »

mikepd
you don't have to "wing it", there is a wealth of info on this site. What I was suggesting in my origional post was couldn't there be a drop in shop, where for example,if youare in HH and the advice given by whoever is a little bit overwhelming you could pop in and ask the experts/expats.

Raphoe,

In general if you post a specific question on this site you will get answers. I try my best to give people all the options that I am aware of. Many other posters do likewise.

You will always get the odd plonker who knows Jack Shit but sticks in his opinion. These are often people who have spent a grand total of four weeks in Thailand.

The more you use the site the more you will get to know who are giving you good advice and who are not.

I anyone gives you a bum steer one of us in the know will always put you right if we know diffferent.

I think that the correct forum to post your questions regarding travel would be "On the Road"

Seems a bit unrealistic to expect some altruistic expat residents to sit in a shop and wait for tourists who want a second opinion on the best way to get somewhere or the best place to eat! Who's going to finance that idea?

Surely web sites like this one fill in the blanks left out by guide books and tourist information offices?

I believe that there is a tourist information place next door to ( The Shed ) See map. and it is being run by the people from Goannas. Hope this is of some help.

Guess, I may, or may not qualify as a rookie tourist. I don't beleive I do as this summers trip will be my 6th in four years. I should add that my last trip was 15/17 months ago and twice I stayed for a month, you do the math. I wasn't being selfish in asking if it would be a good idea to have a drop in point, I was meerly thinking about my first trip to LOS and what may have happened to me without the help and advice of my mates wife. Thanks for the responce, and the advice as where to post this kind of question. HHAD rookie. WESTIE, cheers I'll look that up. JAIME, yes I am A tourist but if you had taken the time to read my origional post, which you obviously didn't, it was about how to take care of yourself and not WHERE TO FEED YOUR FACE. :guns:

Presumably enjoying LOS to the max means not eating anything enjoyable then?

And yes, I did read your original post, but it was your means of delivering this service i.e. a "drop in shop" where you could go but only after "advice given by whoever is a little bit overwhelming" so you could then "pop in and ask the experts/expats" in your subsequent post to which I was responding.

Sorry to be so disparaging but it still sounds unrealistic to me and despite the reactionary nature of your response you haven't answered my question as to how such a venture would be financed..... or didn't you read my post? If there is one existing, being supported by Goanna's as Westie mentions then fair enough but I dare say that if Goanna's wasn't there, neither would the information place!

Nevertheless, if you can get someone to work for nothing on the off chance that you might need to be taken care of then all the very best of luck to you!
