Sounds like another installment of '
Tales from Tourist Town' Richard.
The police, probably the largest group of bar owners outside bar owners themselves, are shutting their places around town just like other Thai bar owners and farang bar owners. Not many Isaan BG's working in many of these places, or tourist drinkers. One of the biggest, busiest bars in town owned by the boss at the MIB shuts the same as the farang bars, and like many of the biggest establishments in town they're not 'bar leasers' but landowners.
Ironically one area where all the bars were open last night was in the busiest tourist area in the town, and they weren't trying to hide the fact with flashing lights, drinkers openly sitting outside the bars with their alcohol... they even had all the bottles of spirits openly on display. I've never seen so many people sitting round them half dozen wooden cocktail 'carts' down the nightmarket
They have a bit of characters too them places (look beyond the 1970's faux pine cladding), plus you're closer to the nice ladies walking by, plus they don't have dirty toilets
