Agree with Randy

It is not the best of times at present for anyone to consider buying a bar.

There are already just too many, and finding staff is not as easy as you would think.

Having a bar here can be a great laugh, lots of fun - BUT - unless you have plenty of money to invest and make somewhere a bit special then you will not make pots of money. It gives a great lifestyle but if it is to be your income source then think again. As TTM said there are too many all ready. Also dont open a real estate agency either - too many also!

For sure, if you buy one don't drink your profits away. It's just too easy.

Just watch Pattaya's Farang owned bars and you'll see too many wasted white guys (owners) drinking their lives away.

I think a lot of people overlook the fact that running a bar is a skill. I'd go further and say you need a set of skills:
  • Phsycologist
    Advisor
    Salesman
    Entertainer
    Manager of People
    Stocktaker
    Accountant
    Events Organisor
    Bouncer
    DJ?
    Councillor
And (in some cases) pimp!

If you have none of the above skills and you still want to run a bar then add 'clown' to the list!

Seriously, some can whilst others try.

One of the greatest efforts at running a bar I’ve seen in Hua Hin was about a year ago when an elderly Swedish guy took over the bar on the top corner of Bintabaht, I think it used to be Lucky Lukes.

He must have been trying to blow his kids inheritance. After carrying out some renovations, he opened the bar the day before the official opening and proceeded to get drunk in that manner that Swedes excel at. By eight o’clock, he was literally lying flat on his back in the middle of the floor singing. Customers were walking around him saying to the staff “why don’t you throw him outâ€

What happened to old "Henning", he had a bar up the way from the roadhole, towards the City Beach?

For what it's worth, the success stories I see over here (farang in business 10 + years) are almost without exception guys who have bought/leased a 3-4 story shop house and put a bar/restaurant downstairs, and 10-12 guest rooms upstairs. Rates running about 650 in low season and 850 in high season. They all seem to get repeat business year after year. They also seem to get the guests to eat/drink in their downstairs establishment, for at least 1-2 meals a day. These bars also have pretty girls and bartenders, pool table and darts and a big screen TV which adds to the attraction. Yes, the investment is more than setting up a beer bar but it seems the returns enable them to stay in business and live comfortably. Pete

Scenario- Lets just say this week i won a 10millionaud lotto draw (basically i now have more money than sense) would it be good fun to chuck some away for 1 or 2 years on a HH bar? Or would it be better to buy out a whole s@#tload of bars and maybe just maybe live a comfortable life- End Scenario.

Oh and id make sure all of the bars had plenty of pristine clean hygenic toilets!!

Henning actually has a new bar on a) Soi Rai Nong; b) Soi Salavat; c) Soi Hot Pot.
Only, he has not opened it yet. Due to reason that the builder he used
stole the whole interior decoration of the the new bar-to-be.

Only in Thailand can somebody steal your wallpapers and get away with it.
