Thailand Mothers Day, August 12

Post by Nereus »

Not sure where this should be posted, mods please move if in the wrong forum.

Mothers Day in Thailand on Friday 12th August. It is a public holiday, so guess Government offices will be closed, along with Schools.
May you be in heaven half an hour before the devil know`s you`re dead!

I was there on that day a couple of years ago, and they closed bars as well.

thats because it is the queens birthday, which is why it is mothers day, and is also why the bars are shut etc.

Thanks, but I am aware of the origins of Mothers and Fathers Day - I was simply pointing out to those who didn't realise, that bars would probably be shut on that day.

Not Hua Hin but maybe a guide:

PHUKET: Visitors and residents in Phuket will have ample opportunity to honor and celebrate HM Queen Sirikit’s 79th birthday – also celebrated in Thailand as Mother’s Day – on Friday.

Police sources have confirmed to the Phuket Gazette that alcohol sales will not be banned on Friday, a national holiday.

“We only ask for people to comply with [the ban of] alcohol sales and purchases on Buddhist holidays,” explained Capt Thapakorn Hanumard of the Phuket Provincial Police.

Patong Police Superintendent Arayapan Pukbuakao conferred.

“We have not received any orders to ban alcohol on Mother’s Day, so you can still sell and buy alcohol on that day,” he said. http://www.phuketgazette.net/archives/a ... 10806.html

It happens that it's also my birthday tomorrow and I've never celebrated it with a pub crawl in the 13 years I've been here - even when I had a bar we closed it.
However, that's not to say that poosmate is mistaken about HH as I havn't bothered to venture into town on the 12th for quite a few years. Much prefer a quiet time at home with some decent food and a few bottles of Chang - must be getting old!!

Happy Birthday Lomu. Whatever you decide to do, reflect for a moment, then totally forget about how old you are! :thumb: Pete

I don't think there's any danger of that over here - Peter Pan syndrome. However, I just don't have the stamina any more.

Come on Lomu! I admire your stamina. I thought I could drink but you can put anyone I know under the table in a Chang for Chang race... and still manage to hit good golf shots after a few of them! Happy birthday and many many more!
