Clusters are not uncommon but are sure indicative of a potential issue viz a viz Legionnaires disease phenomena. No doubt Dr Mike can comment of the virus aspects as there are many around with often lethal consequences eg. Spanish influenza.
I have read that some viruses give rise to heart issues too! Surprised at the alleged speed of the outcome however.

As an update, looks like the Thai authorities are grudgingly admitting that it could be toxic deaths in Chiang Mai at this notorious hotel regarding the bedbug chemical.
