Time to buy Beer

Post by maccastime »

Is there any kind members that can advise me,of the times you CAN & CANNOT buy Alcohol?
It is so frustrating to go into Tesco i think it was 3pm,staff watch while u load up your trolley, say nothing, then on arrival at the register.... sorry you cannot buy at this time. But the small supermarket near the main roundabout and rail crossing you can buy anytime? Same applies for seven eleven stores, yesterday i loaded 6 bottles of beer into a basket, then at the register the girl pointed to a sign behind her, with different times on it,but i have no idea what they are,I was in Koh Samet a few years ago and the seven eleven actually chain the fridge up?

I believe the times you can buy are from 11:00 - 14:00 and 17:00 - 00:00. If you look on the fridge the times you can buy will be displayed.

Saying that you can buy anytime of day if you skip the 7/11s and tescos and go to your local.

Also, you can buy more than 10 litres at anytime, as this is classed as 'Wholesale'

Actually, I believe it's 11am - 3pm and 5pm till midnight.
The reason given for no sales between 3-5pm is because of schools coming out.
As already said, corner shops and even Family Marts will sell. It's the larger supermarkets and 7-11s that tow the line.

To add to the confusion I copied the following from Thai Law forum:

" Daily Ban on Sale of Alcohol, Elections, and Religious Holidays
The sale of alcohol in Thailand is banned between 2pm and 5pm
and again between midnight and 11am seven days a week.

This rule largely affects supermarkets and chain shops,
such as 7-11 or Tops. It is common knowledge that the
law is not always enforced at smaller, family-run shops. "

This tallies with GLCQuantum posting.
"There's no plausible or convincing reason, certainly no evidential one, to believe that there is such an entity (= deity) and that all observable phenomena, including the cosmological ones... are explicable without the hypothesis; you don't need the assumption."

My apologies. Thought it was 3-5pm. Then again I've got my supplies in at 8am. You won't catch me out and about when the schools are disgorging their pupils.

You also won't be able to buy them at the 7-11's (or any other minimart) that are attached to the petrol stations. No beers in any fridge there.

The reason why the chain minimarts cannot sell during this time is that the cash registers are programmed not to register a sale during the enforcement period. Thank goodness Mom and pop stores don't have registers with that sort of programmability.

Having said that, my local will wrap the beers in newspaper to disguise the sale (and probably mute the telltale 'clink!') during the so-called 'dry' days.

Family Mart's sell alcohol 24/7. There's quite a few of them dotted around town.

This must be why I've never run into this problem... :D
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

Some 7/11's will sell beer, and other alcohol out of hours. I get the feeling that they dont ring it through the till until the correct time (or the till has the wrong time - must check next time), so everyone is happy. Obviously, someone like Tescos cant do that.
