House Security

Post by Ray.H »

Hi All

Has anyone got any idea's on how I can secure my house, and hopefully stop it being used as a Hotel every time I go away. I have been looking into Alarms, but the house is quite isolated, so I doubt any one would hear it. I was thinking of getting metal shutter's on all the doors and window's, but not sure if that is very practical and may be expensive....................any thought's please.

Have you thought of a house sitter?

Automatic lighting, an alarm that dials a phone call, dogs (fed by neighbors or friends when you are away), cctv cameras connected to the internet for remote viewing? I employ all these even though I'm never gone for more than three or four days. It's either that or don't leave anything valuable in the house.... or move to a safer place.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

Ray, I may have a suggestion that would suit you. Can you post an email address please? Or make 8 more meaningful posts soon! :thumb:

(Edit: That's 'another 8' rather than 'more meaningful'... )

I'm not sure if the OP actually want's Hua Hin's homeless community looking after his house.

I recall a few years back that lots of empty homes had 'sitters', I guess it depends if the O/P has a Thai wife (edit - so family can help out)? Or maybe they are the ones using it as a hotel? :?

Depends on the circumstances

Location
Time period
Local facilities
Transport

I for one would house sit (done it before in the UK, California and Zimbabwe) for a change in scenario for a spell. If the OP agrees to pay the overheads then OK.

a guy posted some time ago about being suicidal and the general opinion was for a change in scenario. My belief, particularly if you are retired is , a change is as good as a rest

Your house-sitting idea is great, Richard. We've offered our house for free to anyone (trustworty) who'd like a holiday in Thailand on a local forum in England, when we're away for a few weeks in April. Nobody has dared to take up the challenge, as the houses we rent are not in touristy areas - fair enough.

I'd rather have somebody living in my house than leave it empty. If anyone on this forum would like to house-sit in Nakhon Pathom for a few weeks in April, I'd love to hear from them.

I will house sit for FA if all conditions suit. I never ever use a/c so no big user of internal facilities. Love dogs, cats, rabbits etc (do need a fridge full of Leo though!! ha, ha)

As a retired grumpy old Farang (as some say) I often crave an away from home experience

I am a nomadic Yorkshireman and some say I'm a gippo

My time in HH is close to finishing. Not my scene anymore so I'm close to roaming. As you know I also have a wife and base in KK so easy for me to operate from KK or HH

give it some thought and PM me   Leo   Chang   Laos Khow
