Although it says "at the Anantara" all the polo matches are being held at the Suriyothai army base.
Yes, saw the field and opening ceremony today. Only reason I knew about the base was because I saw a flyer at the @letic gym. Barry, thanks for answering my post about the location of that base.

Now that we've got the location sorted, some impressions would be nice. I suggested to Mrs DM that we pop down and she said I'd be bored out of my skull in 5 minutes.
Is it worth stirring my stumps to get down there?
Those of you who were there 5 years ago - is it just a few elephants lumbering around aimlessly, or is it a non-stop, ruthless, action-packed, drama-filled gore fest?
This is the way

It's more like the first half of that sentence. :D The action is quite slow, but it has it's humorous moments and the food and other activities were enjoyable when we were there last.

Never seen a match but have been told that the elephants clearly understand it's both a game and competition. They want their team to win. This I gotta see. Also read the most exciting part is watching the ground keepers run out to pick up elephant poo while trying to not disrupt the match.

Three or more elephants frequently lock up in a "scrum" while the riders swing away missing the ball many times and then finally connecting to only move it a few meters... kind of like my golf...

Anyone got any pics from this year's event? If so please post them.

I shot a bunch yesterday but haven't started editing them. Here is a one of the elephant buffet that ended the morning's activities.

And just because I'm in that kind of mood this morning:

It's a handle for the players to use steadying themselves while hopping on and off the heffalumps.
