Several months ago I read an amusing article by Andrew Biggs of his visit, I think to Tesco, to buy an appliance and repeatedly being told "Have no stock"..
This evening it happened to me. Went to Power Buy to buy an electric fan that could be hung on the wall. Found the ideal unit on display and said that wanted to buy one.... the response from the male salesman.."Have no stock". I repeated my desire several times with the same response.."Have no stock." I then asked what about the unit on display.."Have no stock". My final response was "No buy, bye bye".
I wonder what finally happens to all of these "Have no stock" items on display. Perhaps there is a big room somewhere for them just like government employees who are made "Inactive".
Have no stock
Re: Have no stock
If you want an amusing experience, insist that you will buy the display item!
I actually was successful with that once when buying a washing machine at Home Pro. At first, the standard "Can not." After I remained standing there saying, "I will take this one," and displaying the money in my hand, they changed the story to "The display model belongs to Samsung, not Home Pro, so cannot sell." I stood my ground (mainly for my own amusement & entertainment, not expecting to be successful) and finally they agreed!
Then, they were apologetic saying they could not sell, since the snap-in water filter could not be located. A similar display model was adjacent -- simply a larger version of my model -- so I reached in, snapped its filter out and snapped it into my model and said, "Now it does." They were bug eyed, but it did the trick. Sometimes it pays to play the "ting-tong farang" card. I got the machine for less than 50% of the regular price:
