Mountain Vill Attack
Mountain Vill Attack
I'll not go into all the details but heard that a lady was followed in her car by a youth on a motorcycle around 10pm to her home in Mountain Vill last week. He then proceeded to attack her with a knife, trying to force his way into the home. Her brave husband fought him off with a golf club.
He was high on yaa baa and its dreadful to think what could have taken place on another day.
He has since been caught, as his motorcycle was left behind, and I understand sentenced to 2 years detention.

Is it just me, or does there seem to be quite a few more stories of this nature - attacks at home, robberies, murders, cars run off the road......... all looking a little worryingscotian wrote:I'll not go into all the details but heard that a lady was followed in her car by a youth on a motorcycle around 10pm to her home in Mountain Vill last week. Re: Mountain Vill Attack
Seems that way to me. Another European girl was hauled out of the river at Bangkok a couple of days back too. I can't but help feel that there is a segment of society which is getting badly squeezed and resorting to some pretty unpleasant means to survive. And this in a country which (allegedly) has pretty much the lowest unemployment rate in the world! Is it just me, or does there seem to be quite a few more stories of this nature - attacks at home, robberies, murders, cars run off the road......... all looking a little worrying

The OP mentions him having a drug issue, most users have jobs but they don't pay well enough to support their habit. But if he were employed or unemployed it wouldn't make any difference if he had a serious problem that makes them lose the plot and go all crazed.Korkenzieher wrote:And this in a country which (allegedly) has pretty much the lowest unemployment rate in the world!

Re: Mountain Vill Attack
Probably true, but (purely as an aside) I find the idea of Thai unemployment at sub 1% quite impossible to believe even if a lot of folks have headed back to the rice farm. There must be financial pressures someplace along the line for a lot of people, and yaa-baa being as widely used as it is might just be some form of 'Dutch' Courage*
(*No slight on the Dutch intended - does anyone have a more politically acceptable alternative to this phrase? - I can't think of one off hand)

Re: Mountain Vill Attack
Yes I'd agree, I can't see how they could possibly know the rate with any accuracy here. It might be a case of 1% is the total they 'officially' know about via some kind of reporting, so they conveniently assume the rest must be employed. Or if you farm for 2 weeks in December, or find other sporadic work then you're employed. I'd reckon unemployment was fairly low in HH though, I hardly know anyone around the area here that doesn't do some kind of work!?Korkenzieher wrote:Probably true, but (purely as an aside) I find the idea of Thai unemployment at sub 1% quite impossible to believe even if a lot of folks have headed back to the rice farm.

I believe the attacker in question was 17 years old also
Re: Mountain Vill Attack
Come on.
It's been discussed on the board before. Not all, but a lot of violence to person or property is simply down to the influx of expats who've retired over here and the assumed riches that go with that.
Thirteen years ago there were incidents but not many. Nowadays they seem to be two to a penny.
Forget ya baa, forget unemployment and just look at where you're living and realise that Thailand is not always the LOS. It never has been and never will be.
It's a jungle out there.
I'll probably regret these words but there you go.

It really is a jungle out there if you don't keep it cut back!

My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?
Re: Mountain Vill Attack
Going to shoot from the hip here folks............
Firstly, anyone who believes the official figures about anything in Thailand is living in freaking La La Land.
Secondly, two years for the piece of crap is way too little, the piece of shit has obviously never had any discipline in his life so 'throwing-the-book' at him would be appropriate as the crimes could be a long list on this one.......assault with intent, drug violations, intent to rob/rape, trespassing, could probably do the little fcuk with no bike license/tax/insurance/ID card/brain/future/being a excessive waste of space/piece of sponging turd etc etc, that a long spell 'breaking rocks in the hot sun' would not go amiss. However, they have this silly 'if you admit it' crap that the sentence gets cut in half......bollox!
Thirdly, yes, desperation seems to be gripping a certain section of society that expects some very unrealistic things and all should be careful of the potential perps.
It's going to get worse when the silly ideas of this new government translates into higher inflation which is certainly not under control.
Imo, the woman's partner should have done a real good job on him with the golf club so that he can't come looking for payback after the piece of crap gets out.
I don't think that it can all just be shifted to the fault of foreigners for just coming here to live with some money to spend. The problems are inhabiting a much deeper part of Thai culture and society and the attitudes they hold contemptuously for non Thais, whether they be European or Burmese. A good long look in the mirror is in order, especially the family nurturing environment and how they bring up these utterly useless piles of shit.
Get a fcuking job is what I say, sponging criminals. What's the freaking problem with that?

I think a lot of farangs dont do enough to protect them selves or there property's in a developing country we are rich pickings a lot of these undesirables go crazy at times like new years or music festivals.
If I lived in Hua Hin full security system and CCTV from SJ I would also have many pepper sprays and stun guns and my Base ball bat ready in case some wants to have a pop at us.
Fair play to the guy for giving him a pasting you have to fight back because the police are bloody useless.
Kendo.

Agree but also with any other country I have lived in. Also agree with most of the points made by posters. Must say that if in the UK he probably would probably have got a 6 week team building "punishment" to the Algarve and a state funded apprenticeship as a locksmith along with some very expensive counselling.
