I would advise you to contact The Learning Centre, which is a sponsor of this form - see sponsors' list on the right. Ask for Don (aka bapak on this forum).
They are a bona fide school that insists on their students attending the course in compliance with the visa regulations (4 hours per week, total of 180 hours per year, I believe).
There are other places where you don't have to attend classes, but that is in contravention of the law and they're bound to be found out and closed down at some stage.
The authorities do carry out checks.
Learning the language certainly makes life a lot more fulfilling and appreciably easier here.
I have been a student at The Learning Centre and, having worked in education for over half my life, I can say that the teachers there are very good. Very practical student-oriented approach and small class numbers.
You can enrol for a 1 year visa and, on expiry, that can then be extended for plus 1 year and then a further year.
Contact The Learning Centre for full details.
