bringing my pets to Thailand

Post by ToandTe »

Hi everyone, could anyone please give me any info on bringing my dog and 2 cats to Hua Hin. We are in the process of buying a property and intend coming to live in Thailand Full Time. Have tried pet carriage companies, Defra, Animal Quarantine in bangkok and Uk and keep getting conflicting or no info back off them. Really need your help if there is anyone out there that has already been through this process. PM'ed Dawn some time last year (Hi Dawn was originally down as TnT) but she couldnt help us as, I think you said Dawn, that you transported your pets from Hong Kong. Am getting desperate as I want all the paperwork to be bang on as I definitely dont want my pets to go into quarantine. Have looked at past "posts" and cant find anything that will help me. Would be very grateful for any info.. Cheers everyone.
PS Just to cheer you all up it is currently minus 2 here in uk!!!

There is a kennel here that I use (in Hua Hin) when I go on holiday, Kennel Scandainavia. I know that they have brought in cats and dogs from Scandainavia. They may be able to help you.
They have a website - if you google the name (sorry I don't know it).
Good luck!

We also brought a dog and 2 cats 2.5 yrs. ago from the U.S. There was no quaranteen in Bkk. We arrived with import papers and health certificates that were given, I believe, no longer than 7 days before depature. Also you need to show proof of current shots, including rabies, which was also at least 30 days before and as we recall you need to fax the health certs. to Bkk to get the import #,s for each animal. That was the difficult part, the tight time frame we had to get it all together. We did have a service greet us on the Bkk end that charged us about $800 to get us through the door, unfortunately that company is out of buisness. I wouldn't doubt you could do this without as a few smiles and perhaps some Baht might do the trick. Also you need to check with the airline about cage requirements, live animal stickers etc. Hope this helps, it was a lot of work but it was worth it.......Sally

Hi I am a new member. I will be relocating to Hua Hin within the next couple of months and have a few cats I would like to take with me. Can you give me an idea as to how your animals have settled in and what the pitfalls are? Thanks in advance.

Hi, just log on to forum and saw your question. I brought 5 cats from UAE to Hua Hin in July with no problems at all but, let me tell you what I think is the best way to do it if you are coming from outside Thailand. I would imagine that you have a local vet where you live and usually keep your cats injections up-to-date. If not, you will need to do this, they need rabies injections so many months before coming over and all other injections to keep them safe. Also micro chipped. You should also receive a passport (ie. record of all their injections, dates etc, the vet should know all this) as you will need this as part of the documents to bring them into the country. Then there is the customs, unless you know what you are doing it all sounds complicated. Personally, the vet who looked after my pets and who I used to board them with did all the medical, paperwork and arranged to send them over to Bangkok using a reputed airline. We also used Dynamic Air Cargo who operate from Bangkok and who met my cats at this end, took them through customs (also arranged the paperwork from this end) and delivered them to my door. Obviously they would communicate with your vet and keep yourself in the loop as to what was happening. I really had no problem doing it this way. Only the cost may be a bit high to some people :D but, the way I look at it, it was totally worth it. My cats looked more rested than I did when they arrived in Hua Hin. Since they have been here they totally love it, obviously they have had a run in with the local cats but nothing they cannot handle as they were used to that in UAE. I hope this helps you and eases your mind, because if, like me, you are having worries and sleepless nights about what to expect it isn't worth it. There are vets here (only had to use one since they arrived but nothing drastic) and I have also checked out Europa Kennels and Cattery and had a tour and the owner there seems very nice and capable. Not had a chance to use their services yet but will probably do that next year. I hope this helps and if you need to know more please contact me again. Good luck. :D

I was wondering if anyone has experience or information about bringing 2 cats from the USA? In particular, which service to use for shipping or direct flights which allow in cabin.
