Hua Hin floods/situation

We are lucky enough to be Huahin bound 1st December. We are hearing some travelers tales of food shortagtes and over booked hotels due to "refugees" from bangkok floods, can anyone provide an on the ground assesment of such stories please?

You'll be ok. The situation should have improved a lot by the time you arrive. Clean up is already happening in the north of Thailand. Are you travelling independently or through a tour operator? If the latter then I don't think you'll have any problems. If you have booked independently then double confirm with the hotel before you arrive. The food situation is variable but I think most hotels and restuarants aren't suffering too much. There have even been eggs available recently!!

Hello, I have been reading daily the floods topic but as I am arriving wednesday 16th november I would like to know from Hua Hin and Bangkok residents who have first hand experience of travelling between Bangkok and Hua Hin during the floods.

The taxi is booked and we shall be calling them from Manchester airport for an update on tuesday 15th but can anyone tell me just how bad it is on a daily basis. As I will update on wednesday 16th as I travel.

We have looked at flying to Phuket to see friends then doing the VIP bus up to Hua Hin but I cant be bothered really.

Is access to Kanchanaburi effected at all as if a detour is required i would rather chil in Kanchanaburi than got to patong.

Is access so bad that alternative routes/destinations will/are required

I read somewhere that although Rama II might be flooded, another route would be kept open.

If you can get to Kanchanburi, you can get to Hua Hin.

It's possible that even if the road is temporarily flooded, the trains might still be running.

If I were you, I'd stick with the arrival at Swampy and take it from there - I'm pretty sure there'll be a fairly direct route to HH.

According to this article, the hotels are underbooked and losing money (according to the Intercontinental spokesperson). With the town heaving with traffic the likes of which I've never seen before, I wonder where they are all staying.

They are staying in their condos. So instead of heavy weekend traffic its all week until they go back home.

To be fair, I don't suppose the Intercontinental would be the first choice for the average Bangkok flood refugee.

the drive from Bangkok is f'in horrible. Normally it would take me an hour to get from bangkok to Banpong, ratchaburi where I live... Took me friggin 5 - 6 hours the other day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Guys,

Does anyone have an update on the route between Hua Hin and Bangkok Airport today? Apparently sections of Rama II are under water and they are planning to use roads 340 and 346 as alternative routes. But then I have read that the ringroad is impassable. So how would you get to the airport from those alternative roads? I need to make that journey within the next couple of days. If anyone has any current info I'd be very grateful to hear it.

Yeah, it's not looking good. A friend of mine has to get out on Saturday to start a new overseas job on Monday and he's actually been looking at the option of driving south to the nearest airport (Surat Thani I think) where he can fly to Bangkok to make his international flight Saturday evening.
