OK - you should definitely look at VeeHD then - that is just a quick click and Bob's your uncle.

Re: Ways to watch a downloaded movie on your TV
My wife used Obizgo.tv to watch Thai TV anywhere we go. They record the shows online and she watches them on her MacBook Air whenever she wants. The service costs about USD 100 per year and is well worth it.
I just brought my old Mac mini G4 to Thailand to download German TV using Bong.TV - Again they record the shows - however I need to specify which ones using the internet browser or their special and very easy iPhone/iPad app. Then I can download and watch or stream it live whenever I want. This service charges a fee as well.
To use my Mac Mini - connected to the TV using a HDMI cable - from the couch I ordered the "Logitech Wireless Touch Keyboard K400" (US layout) from thanni.com for thb 1320 plus 77 express shipping, paid at the ATM. It arrived within 2 days. It's really cool just plugged the tiny USB stick into the computer and it worked instantly without any drivers or software needed. Now I can use my computer from the couch without cable. The keyboard is a bit cramped great for my use but not to write your memoirs.

I bought a little box called a WDTV Live. It converts all files to be played on a telly. You just plug your HD/pen drive into it and away you go.

Last year I bought mine for £88. Now they are £114... Bloody hell...

Re: Ways to watch a downloaded movie on your TV
I have to give Norm credit for this as he did it all first and I just copied him. This solution is for downloading stuff you want to keep as it's not the cheapest way to go by any means.
He started off with a 500gb portable hard drive and is now up to his second multi gazillion hard drive but I have a 1 terrabite that I'm not using to anywhere near it's capacity. Between that and the tv is a media player. We both use the A.C. Ryan media player as it supports about anything you want to do and is super easy to use.
I download from either Kick Ass Torrents or Pirate Bay. For software we use UTorrent and Vuze. When my files are downloaded to a temporary download file on my computer I unhook the portable hard drive, bring it into the bedroom where my computer is and transfer the file using Windows Explorer.......just click and drag. Then I delete the downloaded files from my PC so there's nothing on it that I've downloaded. Hopefully that will keep the internet police off my back if they ever start snooping around.
All this supports pretty much anything you want if you're a tecno dude, which I am not, but it does subtitles etc.etc. and it's all been very reliable.
I probably went way overboard on the portable hard drive but I figured it was cheap enough to just be done with it and buy a big one the first time.
Now if you are as lazy as I am you'll get somebody smarter than yourself to put this all together. Norm and I both use a place called InvadeIT. Two guys from Denmark/Sweden or thereabouts. Their website it www.invadeit.com, phone number 032-520-177. Open weekdays only but Thomas will happily (?) answer voice mails from his cell phone which is on his business card.......which you can get at his office: 60/22 Petchkasem Road. I'll leave it to him to give you instructions as I would more than likely get you lost. It's on the main drag north side of town....easy to get to.
Have fun!

I'm probably lazier and less knowledgeable about all things computer-related than you, TIGR, but I have to admit I've never given the above possibility a moment's thought.T.I.G.R. wrote: Hopefully that will keep the internet police off my back if they ever start snooping around.
Seems to me that if they ever do start snooping in any meaningful way, they'll do it somewhere that is a little more "justice-friendly" than Thailand, and even there not for a few years yet.
Or should I be thinking about this issue?
This is the way

Re: Ways to watch a downloaded movie on your TV
^^ Well, my 1TB is completely full so will be transferring all to a 3TB drive shortly....... sadly enough, I also have another 2TB drive
As for the internet police, believe me they are there and snooping. I'm based in China, but was tracked through a UK VPN. Nothing happened other than a warning through the VPN provider, so IMHO as long as you're not using a VPN based in those ''justice-friendly'' countries, all should be safe enough...... for now. Something to keep an eye on though.

Re: Ways to watch a downloaded movie on your TV
There are lots of ways of watching downloaded programs, as has been discussed, but just to add my tenpennoth's worth, we use torrent sites (mainly UKNova), store the dowloads on an external diskstation (a hard disk outside of the laptop/PC) and then using our wireless network play them on out TV using an XTreamer system. Copying a download onto a USB works well but the wireless system is very slick and depending on space the diskstation can store hundreds of files.

Re: Ways to watch a downloaded movie on your TV
I know its an old topic, but for those who would like to know...the easiest way to watch downloaded movies is by:
1) Burning the downloaded movie (preferrably AVI format) to a blank CDR or DVD-R. How? Browse to movie, right-click and send to DCD/ DVD drive. Go to DVD drive and click on burn/ write content.
2) NOT all DVD players play AVI's, but more here than in the west ! Strangely enough some of the cheap DVD players play it very well, so for the torrent junkies its worth getting one. I recommend something like Phillips DVD player. They play just about anything and they're very cheap.
If you have a different file format etc, then PM for some more ways to get around.
You can obviously watch by linking your PC / laptop to your flat screen (most have the plugs these days), but there's always minor issues and interruptions with PC's (unscheduled and annoying virus scans, email pop ups etc. in the middle of your movie)
Cheers,
Dan

Re: Ways to watch a downloaded movie on your TV
Hooking up a Laptop HDMI cable to the TV as an external monitor is the easiest to play video, next to burning a DVD. But i am getting more creative. Check out this link from a recent Wall Street Journal article on TV availability on the internet. Good ideas if you want to bypass TV services and stream or download internet content (Please let me know if the link is a problem).

Re: Ways to watch a downloaded movie on your TV
Recently bought a internet TV and blu ray internet player.
The TV is ready set for netflix, napster, and about 8 others.
With the blu ray you can log on to the internet so anything available plays there. Like hooking the TV to a computer, but a bit more direct.
Now the wife can watch lakorns on youtube

I am one that DL's Torrent files or Magnetic links. The HDTV and HDRips are excellent and on a 48" they look like a theater. With a descent internet connection you can have most movies or TV shows in 1/2 an hour.
The new Dual USB LED TV's are pretty slick as you just DL to comp, move to a 16 or 32gb USB and plug into TV. I have one for movies and one for TV series and toggle back and forth. Extremely convenient. I do not watch much TV but late at night after my GF has had her fill of Lakorns and she has crashed, I can burn a few hours.

Very nice TV's. I played with a few in Calif on my last visit back to see parents. Sadly all those TV ready links; Netflix, Napster, Hulu, TV.com, Justin TV etc are not supported sourcing here so they are worthless...unfortunately. I have tried sourcing Netflix from pingin IP's thru VPN's and still no luck.

Migrant,
Yeah. I am a pretty techy guy and have tried several ways to backend the connectivity and it is always stopped and with a big fat dialogue box saying "Sorry, but streaming rights are limited to the US only" or "Due to copyright infringement laws our content cannot be seen in foreign countries"
If you are a huge TV watcher there are options. Albeit I do not watch as much TV living here in Thailand I actually found I enjoy US TV here more now. Primarily as it is all commercial free. No Viagra, Cialis, Lunesta, Pos-T-Vac, Fast food, infomercials, etc etc...Refreshing. There are some good programs with substance out there and story lines.
Good Luck on your move here. If in Phetburi area ping me. We can say Hello.
