Hua Hin Safari & Adventure - Elephant Village

Post by TingTongJohn »

We just went to Hua Hin Safari & Adventure - Elephant Village and it was o.k..... Not great but my 2 daughters loved it. Its like a cheap version of Safari world I guess with less animals. They do the picture at the enterance thing(Then offer you a clock with the pic for around 250 baht??) and a small free drink. The large parrot named snow in the seating area takes a good picture. We missed the elephant show by minutes and had to wait for 1 1/2 hours for the next one which was a pain. The system here basically is you buy food for the animals and feed them so then your really paying for the food for all the zoo. Milk in bottles for the cute goats. A fishfood in a baby bottle mixed with water to yes feed the fish and bunchs of bananas to feed the elephants. None of the caged inmates(animals) looked unhealthy and the staff was polite and pleasant. The elephant show was weak and they want you to buy bananas to feed the elephants as the show progresses. Do not get me wrong it was o.k just kinda contrived if you get my drift. The good part is in between the shows we walked around and I got to feed some elephants and no one was bothering me to do so( as in a hard sell) Very open so I bet on a rainy day very muddy. I give it 2.5 out of 5 elephants as a rating. :|

Do they do that deal where a few people lie down and an elephant walks over them? That one makes me cringe when I've seen it at other places. People must be nuts who volunteer for that, as there is no getting up from a mistake. Pete

Yes they got a boy and girl from the crowd and they go out lay in the middle of the arena(Also know as a the dirt parade grounds) And the elephants put their foot on them. The funny thing about that was the one elephant put his foot/hoof/stump down on the boys crotch and that got a laugh from every one but the boy.

Lol.....I volunteered once about ten years ago but wouldn't do it again now...lol. All was good until it was my turn to have that huge foot on me, then I just started hoping the elephant didn't have a change of mind.....lol. What magnificent creatures they are.

You think that's bad. I was volunteered once, and it must have been a female elephant because she decided that she could multi-task. As well as massaging me, she decided it was time to pee.

Took two youngsters elephant riding yesterday at elephant village. Aged 14 and 9. Cost 1000 + 600 thb. It's a 50 minute ride with a dip in a large pond as you complete the journey. You get fresh pineapple on completion. The boys enjoyed it.

A staff member takes your picture while in the pond, puts it in a frame and brings it to you whether you asked for it or not. Cost 200 thb. It's a pressure-sell technique. The quality of the image/printing wasn't good so we declined.

Other opportunities to leave poorer, are being encouraged to feeding the elephants bananas and to tip the baby elephant, who will play the harmonica, while spinning a hoop on its trunk. Actually, this is very cute.

Sorry. The video is from a Phuket elephant venue. I don't have video of the Hua Hin venue.

With a few elephants, a few goats and a parrot, it's not exactly what I would call a safari.
