So what is going on around here and where does it happen? This section is for discussion on local events, festivals, and holidays as well as activities and things to do.
Rays Place advertises pretty well. Despite that - and its' very central location - it was by no means full last Thursday night. Yet there were some excellent Thai and farang musicians jamming together like there was no tomorrow!
Brilliant stuff which rivals the Garden in ChiangMai IMO. (In fact Rays is must less pretentious with non of that endless sound check faffing of the Garden.)
I know times are hard and the exchange rate is s..t but for the price of a couple of beers you can sit there all night and listen to quality music. Can't be bad.

You are absolutely right. Mondays and Thursdays at Ray's Place are a must. Mondays are a little more jazzy while Thursdays may be more oriented towards Blues, Rock and some C&W. Also, consider Mr. Ray's Jazz Train trips, a train car loaded with Thai and Farang musicians making its way south to a wonderful beach resort for a week-end of good company, eating, dancing and playing. Worth every dime.
If you google "Ray's Place Hua Hin" you will find a number of references including this: "Ray's Place is on the corner of on Amnuaysin Road and Sra Song Road, Hua Hin". Your next question: How do I find that address? Answer: Take a Tuk Tuk or look it up on Google Maps. It's opposite of Mr. Dan's Guesthouse. Have fun!
Yes LP the difference in style between Mondays and Thursdays is very noticeable. Last night was packed - and included a very well known Norwegian singer whose name I couldn't even begin to remember!
It was so full it was easier to eat first at Moom Sabai just across on the other corner. (Another good place for keenyow farang - wink)

"When you're Smiling, When You're Smiling" (The national anthem of the Land of Smiles, Monday nights. Wink wink.)
A word of advice: Go with a group, reserve a table in advance, go early and eat before the music starts.
Also recommended for an evening of Jazz: Chez Loulou in the new shopping arcade across the railway station at 7/11. Jazz every Wednesday evening and good food.
