Stone Wall Carving

Post by bonnielass »

Can anyone recommend a place to buy a nice stone wall carving? For outside in the garden.
Preferably from a supplier who will deliver and install the item.

My partner has ordered some from the shop on the Pala-u road, it's one of those garden centre type affairs if we're talking about the same place but I'm not there until later in the week so I couldn't comment on the quality yet.

A tip from experience. If the carving has an enamel type coating and not the soft pastel type coating, and it will be out in the sun and rain, buy a can of Timer Coat - Nanosealer A 100 clear acrylic finish, and apply by small brush. It will keep the carving in like new condition/appearance for at least a year of heavy sun/weather. You can reapply as needed about every year or two. Product is available at most hardware/paint stores.

Regarding carvings with a the soft pastel type look/coating, I don't recommend using the sealer as it changes the entire look and takes on a harsh appearance. Those type of carvings should not be out in the weather anyway, but under some kind of cover. Pete

PS: The product is also good for things like Spirit Houses, brick and stone walls, exterior tile grouting etc.

Thanks for that tip Pete. It never even occurred to me that a wall fresco would need any kind of protection. I suppose the sun and rain takes it's toll on everything eventually.

I hope I can tell the difference between the metallic and pastel. I am putting it on a pale wall so I was looking for something darkish - terracotta maybe.

Well I know what the old man's getting in his Xmas stocking now - a tin of sealant and a wee brush!
He'll be over the moon.
