A thought about the wild rice......The white and brown rice I looked up definitely said "cooked". The wild rice may have been a dry, uncooked 1 cup, which is of course much more than a cooked 1 cup. Anyone looking at the site can check. Pete

How can you be 1-5 pounds overweight? Seems a bit too precise to me!
Having said that, Mrs D-M seems to manage it occasionally...

Draw your own conclusions but it looks to me as if rice is better than potatoes, but if you can eat your meat/veggies/Thai food with bread instead or either you'll be better off in the weight department. Pete

Yes Pete, the rice might be better in terms of watching one's weight, but I think that's where it ends, since it has virtually no goodness in it at all. Potatoes may not be a health food, but they do at least have some nutritional value.

Unfortunately nobody in my household eats them, so I don't bother either. What we do is we mix, white jasmine and brown jasmine rice in equal proportions, and then add in a 5kg bag of the white, red and black rice you can buy in most supermarkets.

Personally, I prefer the sticky rice, but even the in-laws who are from Isaan are keen on eating it every day, and besides, the price of sticky rice has got silly.

Concerning potatoes, I don't blame anyone for not eating the Thai variety. Overly sweet to me with a yellowish flesh. If you're near a Macro they usually have potatoes from many EU countries and the USA. I don't know about Villa for a selection but wouldn't hurt looking.

I went to a Christmas church dinner last week and somehow they got hold of 50 lbs of Idaho potatoes and they were the best mashed I've had in years. :D Pete
