How did you celebrate New Year's Eve
How did you celebrate New Year's Eve
What did everyone do last night?
We're fortunate to have a home built high on a hillside so we always spend New Year's Eve on the balcony watching the fireworks displays from Kao Tao all the way to the official one at 19 Rai. Last night was one of the better years with at least a dozen good displays up and down the beach between those two. While the 19 Rai one is pretty far in the distance it looked like a very good one that lasted a while.
Even some of our (very close) neighbors had some pretty good short ones. We sat up there listening to music, snacking and drinking wine until the obligatory glass of champagne at midnight. The dogs were with us and were terrified from the fireworks which sounded like being in a war zone at one point.
The lanterns were beautiful too. Strings of them released all evening from different locations up and down the beach.

Re: How did you celebrate New Year's Eve
We were down Bintabaat..lots of small fireworks being set-off from the St.
At midnight a Scotsman awarded me a glass of 'Single Malt' to toast in the N.Yr.
Everyone happy, no violence seen..the only person I saw get hurt was Sir Richard as he fell backwards off his stool..!!
Had to go home about 2.00am due to the loud music at the 'temple-end' BANGING out from the usual bars with mega-speakers..it was painful believe me.
Saddened to see 2 motorcycle smashes on the way home..one was when 2 drunken youths slammed into the back of a cyclist..they just never saw the poor woman on her cycle..ouch!
The other being 2 bikes smash into each other at high speed at the Chomsin/Pekky Rd lights..guess what?
no Police in the box there..ambulance teams dealt with badly injured kids AND the traffic..well done lads.

Are you sure it was a stool you fell off and not a motorbike? Did you hurt your wrist again?richard wrote:hhfarang wrote:Richard, did your daughter bring her boyfriend too?Meal at Bam Bam,s with my daughter and boyfriend

19 Rai was looking good until the fear-filled trembling hound leapt on my shoulder, sank her teeth into my neck, her claws into my back and wouldn't let go. That was the end of our evening.hhfarang wrote:What did everyone do last night?

A very pleasant evening, with my resident chef cooking aromatic crispy duck with Chinese pancakes, hoi sin sauce, etc. Loud bangs (including gunshot) all around from early evening until the early hours. Watched the mediocre fireworks display at the Chedi from the house. Tucked up in bed around 1am - pity it's getting warmer, I was getting used to the cooler nights.

Indoors with 'er indoors! Just snacking/drinking, me watching Jools Holland on the telly, her on the laptop, then about 30 mins before midnight, we both fancied sausages! The ones with bacon wrapped around left over from Christmas - managed to defrost and cook in time before venturing out into the garden, when a bottle of bubbly was opened to go alongside the sausages whilst the neighbours let off fireworks!

Jools for me too - and battling with Hotmail and a little Duty Free!
The lanterns are starting to take off now (literally) in the little old UK too. But the locals around here don't seem to know how to set them off properly so they drift up half squished.
Then on local radio on New Years Day there was a discussion about said lanterns - the two presenters were undecided what to make of them. Seems there is utmost concern about the wire bits being eaten by cows... well - if a cow is that stupid I really don't want to eat it anyway.
A sprout is for life - not just for Christmas.
Re: How did you celebrate New Year's Eve
The champagne has been on ice for me, I had a pretty miserable New Year. I was supposed to get home on the 31st, but got caught up in some issues at work and have had to work right through, will be home hopefully the end of the week.
I spend a fortune on fireworks and according to my wife they only set off about half of them, so if you see fireworks on Saturday night it could well be me.

Re: How did you celebrate New Year's Eve
^ So you're one of those!
Most people only do fireworks on the actual holiday in other places, but here there have been nightly amateur fireworks from before Christmas through last night. I have one dog who is terrified of the noise and she had to sleep inside last night or she was going to scratch a hole in the door (normally we do not let our dogs stay inside)! I'll be glad when all the fireworks are exhausted and so will she. She's our best guard dog but sadly, all a burglar would have to do is let loose a firecracker and she'd be looking for a place to hide.
But I'll give you a pass for doing them on Saturday Dozer because of your circumstances... have fun!

Yes and with Chinese New Year on the 23rd, they are only going to get a short respite.
