Hi all,
Just played the EGAT course at Rajjaaprabha Dam while on a road trip to Phuket. The course is in the mountains about half way from Surat Thani to Phang Na.
The course is an example of the best and worst of Golf in Thailand. Set in a mountain valley next to the Dam lake, the views are spectacular. The course is a really good test of golf with some truelly awesome holes. The course condition was very good considering the amount of rain the south of Thailand had just a few days ago. That was the best bit.
The worst was that I have never experienced such poor service and bad attitude at a Golf course in Thailand, worse than Majestic used to be. They have accomodation which we booked and paid extra for a good view, only to get a view of the back of a Palm tree. When we asked to change we were told the Hotel was full even though did not see or hear another person in the building. On the course and the Golf club house I think someone forgot to tell them this is the land of smiles, have never seen such surly miserable people in Thailand. It was completely farang unfriendly getting some service was like pulling teeth. The final straw was that my wife and I playing as 2 ball got stuck behind a Thai 6 ball for the back nine. They refused to let us through inspite of our requests (or maybe because of). Anyway after long waits on holes 10 thro 14 we gave up and left early not finishing the last 4 holes.A real shame cos an awesome Golf course is being ruined by the operators and the other customers.
Checked out the Hotel early and went on to Tung Wua Lan Beach at Chumpon for a really nice relax and some proper Thai service at an unspoiled beach resort. Peace and tranquility to get the golf experience out of the system
