New Makro store in Hua Hin

They have all the stuff I like........deer meat, wild boar, ostrich, partridge, and even crocodile meat

We've been getting deer, ostrich and all other meats from Makro for a long time - generally very good quality and prices

Ostrich and Venison steaks + burgers are very popular with our customers.

Wild boar? I've only ever eaten that once in some small town in northern Thailand whilst I was traveling along the Mekhong. Don't remember exactly how it was cooked but it was excellent.
Had crocodile once at a small restaurant on the left hand side of the Pala U road as you get to the top of the hill heading out of town. Unfortunately that restaurant disappeared years ago. Again I thought the meat was great.
Used to have venison as a family treat in the UK when young. It was cooked in a rich gjetost sauce (Norwegian goat's milk cheese).
I'm getting hungry and am thinking about sending the wife off on safari to this new store.

On entry asked at the desk where I could find various Items. Staff member escorted me to what I needed whilst making polite but unobtrusive conversation. Had a look around and found several other members of staff to be just as well trained and efficient. If they keep that up Tesco may as well move to Antartica and take Home Pro with it.

Yes we went along on Wed opening day,and staff were as you mentioned very helpfull.However it is not like the Macro in Pranbury,this one is mainly for Restaurants etc,they do not have Computers,fridges,w/machines etc,just a few t.vs i noticed.But it was good for a wander about sampling some various cooked delights.Also fairly good selection of meats etc.

Went to the new Makro today and was very impressed.

It is very well laid out with loads of room and puts Tesco to shame, but having said that those of us who have been here a few years also very much appreciate Tesco starting up - having to go to Big C in Petchaburi seems a long time ago, so thanks to progress.

Pardon my ignorance but I think Talad means local market, doesn't it? if so, which one or ones would you recommend for travelling to by car - I'm not scooter savvy and don't want to be! I know it's a bit far off but I really like the Cha Am market - plenty of parking, good quality cheap fresh Thai food. Looks as though like you I'll now totally dump MV - although my bank is there unfortunately, and keep shopping at Villa Market, but now augmented by Makro and the odd jaunt to Cha Am - unless, of course, you can come up with a HH car friendly market!

Yes Talad means local market. I live in between Cha Am and Hua Hin. I have been to the Cha Am market a few times but have found the prices to be a bit higher on a lot of stuff and you have to go early AM for best selections. Wednesday night is the big night there but gets very jammed with folks. I prefer to go on the Wave to any market for a variety of reasons but my GF prefers a car. I agree with you that the Cha am market has ample parking.

As for me, I personally frequent the markets on Phetkasem rd near the Isuzu dealer and PTT. They rotate from one side of the road to the other for interesting reasons as I have found out. you cannot miss them. These are not Huge deals like Cha am, in fact they are like most you can find throughout Thailand. They are very good and have everything you would ever need. The sellers show up around 3:30pm and usually by 6:30 they are done and sold what they brought. Just park your car along the road and walk in. These markets are about 10 minutes max out of downtown Hua Hin. The produce and fruits are excellent and fresh. The fish are usually still alive and they will clean and scale for you. Prices are great.

If you live in Hua Hin there is a very nice night Talad near the tennis court arena right after you leave Hua Hin heading towards Pran Buri.

I prefer unpackaged products. I know for a great majority of foreigners they feel a comfort having a date of expiration but IMO its a false sense of security. Anything processed, pkg'd and a date added is suspect in my book.

Couldn't disagree more!
Thought the service non-existent and the staff rude.
Apparently according to a friend there were farangs in suits in abundance earlier in the day. No sign of them when we were there - perhaps they took any good training they might have dispensed away with them when they left!
Simple things - at the Service Counter "Do you have dog food? - ""Yes", vague point to furthest wall of shop. Couldn't find dog food, asked several Makro staff - answers ranged from "Don't know" to "Don't stock". Back to Service Counter - "No, we don't stock dog food" Later on I was talking to mÿ neighbour and she said "But they do stock cat food - I just bought some!"
Shelves and shelves of coffee, mostly unground - not a grinder in sight - compare that with Villa Market! Also not in sight "never heard of" filter papers for a drip filter coffee machine - compare that to either Villa Market or Tesco!
Grog same price as 7/11 - more variety of mixers stocked in that odd shop just by the railway crossing on Soi 6. Grog visiting hours also strictly interpreted (just as in Tesco, but NOT in Villa Market!).
Absolutely no help offered in packing items when leaving shop - even Tesco bags items for you and Villa goes further - they load them in your car for you! A well spent unasked for 20 baht!
I thought the vegetable section lamentable, with a very poor choice of bulk packaged items none too fresh looking. The bakery was ordinary. The only star of the show for me was the fresh fish section.
The Makro in Samui leaves this one for dead!
No, I'll stick with Villa Market and the odd foray into Tesco MV.
Overall? Total disappointment!

While my experience was not nearly as bad as yours, I just found most everything to be packaged and processed/Frozen except for the fresh fish area. My GF and I are quite curious if they can keep that fresh seafood segment of the store up at the prices we witnessed. We usually get our fish fresh at the night markets. Grand openings always look great as we all know. Big dog and pony show. Then they taper off to mediocrity.

It will work for us for home supplies but that's about it. We have been driving to the New Tesco in "Ta Yang". Interestingly it is 10kms further away from us but we get their faster due to the U Turn fiasco, the traffic back to Market Village and then the parking time in Hua Hin.

As for the Night Market, unfortunately I do not know the specific Soi. I will be there tomorrow night and will look and ping back on the site. Outside of the Soi specifics for reference it is the Huge Isuzu vehicle dealership on the left side heading North about 6 to 8kms out of Hua Hin. If you are that way at 4pm you can't miss it as the traffic slows up significantly as people converge on it. Yes it is a daily market with the caveat that they move across the street from the dealership every other day. Same sellers they just alternate.

Sorry to be once again showing my ignorance, but where is "Ta Yang"?
As for Isuzu is it before Soi 6, Toyota and Makro?
As far as Makro is concerned it hasn't yet achieved mediocrity!
