Whats going on with the land of smiles?

Post by simmo116 »

Ok so after booking my flights for my holiday in august i turn on the ten oclock news to see thailand under tons of water.(oh great i thought to my self) but surley it should sort it self out by time we go. then i check in with the BK post and see that high seas and waves have potentialy flooded my rented condo in takiab.....GREAT! now have just checked in with the post again and discoverd that some religouse nuts are considering blowing up sukhumvite soi 22 in bangkok where i used to live and plan to see when back on holiday. what else can go wrong. gutted to say the least. :cuss:

Take it all with a grain of salt. Come and enjoy yourself. You're very correct though to check in with the forum here, as the newspapers get a bit sensationalistic and need sorting out. I would say there is nothing to worry about at all, at least until the rainy season starts again. Pete

EDIT: Soi 22 was selected by the local police for added security as the initial threat seems to have been against American tourists, and I think the police randomly picked the Washington Square area for lack of knowing any other area where Americans seem to congregate.

Lomu and Norseman are up and about at this early hour so I'll let them field that one. Pete

No problems in KT. Apart from some bad storms a few weeks ago that affected the beach there was no flooding down here.
KT/HH/CA are all dry as a bone.

The floods ended ages ago, and Takiap, like Hua-Hin, has not been flooded at all by high seas. The religious feak you mention will more than likely be living on state benefits in the UK by the time you get here, so no worries their either.

Yes, I had a pleasant few weeks in Hua Hin over the holiday period without any bother at all and I only found out about the high seas a day after it happened when I read about it in the Bangkok Post. ( I don't live near the beach. )

Dunno about Takiap?..but last night around Binta-Block was busier than New Yrs Eve! Every bar was full, my wife said every restaurant from the railway road down to Poolsook was full also.
So on that note it seems everyone has faith in holidaying here at the moment.. 8) 8)
