Please help, I am travelling to Hua Hin in November and want to stay at a very good 5 star hotel but do not have the budget to go to the Chiva Som. I would like somewhere which is not over run with families and has very good rooms and very good service. I was thinking of staying at Anantara (Small Luxury Hotels of the World) in a Lagoon room, but would welcome any comments. I do not mind being slightly out from the town centre.
Cheers
Which hotel is the best , Anantara, Hyatt Regency, Evason??
Hi Baldie (Am I looking in a mirror??),
I'm biased as I like the Anantara (personally don't think Lagoon Rooms worth extra - prefer sea view, including suites). The hotel also lays on a complimentary mini bus to HH town centre, although a taxi is only 80 to 100Baht!
These topics have received a lot of comment recently - it comes down to personal preference.
Can I direct you to:
Anantara - http://www.huahinafterdark.com/forum/vi ... =1455#1455
Some Others - http://www.huahinafterdark.com/forum/vi ... .php?t=732
Also try keywords in the search facility above.
The Hyatt also seems to get good reviews - http://www.huahinafterdark.com/forum/vi ... ight=#2204
Good luck
Peter

Thanks Peter,
Good info re. Lagoon rooms as they are approx £50 a night more than beach terrace rooms, which over 8 nights smarts a bit. I think I am moving towards the Anantara because it seems to be less chainy and also good service. One other question, mid November is that a good time to go?? Is that the end of the monsoon season, or will there still be some rain
Cheers

Hi Baldie,
I'm sorry but I have no first hand information regarding rains in November.
My understanding is that October / November is wet, but when the rains are likely to finish I really don't know.
Hopefully one of the 'local' ex-pats will give you a view. I do know that HH seems to get much less rain than Koh Samui.
Cheers

It’s the follicly challenge bloke again.
If anyone else could help re. the question about the Hyatt vs Anantara which is the best, any info would be great as I have read very differing views. On the one hand the Hyatt Regency in a club room looks great, breakfast and also drinks in the evening, however some people say that it needs a lick of paint, vs the Anantara which seems reasonable but is classed as a Superior 1st class hotel by Kuoni, vd Deluse rating for the Hyatt. PLus if anyone knows re. the weather in late November that would be great ... questions, questions, questions...
Cheers

Hey Baldie,
A friend was in HH in October last year and said it rained for a short time one day but was nice the rest of that day and the rest of her stay.
I was there in April, the Hot season, and found it very nice. The gentle breeze off the gulf made it seem a little less hot/humid.
According to http://www.thailand-holidays.uk.com/tha ... eather.htm
the rainy season in Thailand in general is May - Oct, while the dry season is Nov - Feb.
More specifically to Hua Hin - According to http://www.thaisouth.com/new/central_th ... 414738.119
"Hua Hin has some of the best weather conditions in Thailand; there is little rain, even in the rainy season. You can go there more or less all the year round."
Also, as far as hotel recommendation, I really enjoyed the Hilton. I did notice a few kids my first time there, but that was in April, and it was a slow time of the year for them (hot season). So I'm not sure if it's usually over run with the little rug rats or not. But the hotel was guest friendly. Service was excellent. Rooms beautiful. If you've got the $$$ to burn, the Hilton is A+++. I've posted a few other responses to people asking about the Hilton, so you can check those as well.
Good luck

Keoni,
Thanks for the info re the weather, just what I need after starting today driving in the English rain..great!!!And thanks for the info re. the Hilton in the centre. I think that I would like to remain outside the centre and stay in a low rise hotel. I understand that the HYatt is about 3km from town, which is fine for walking, however not sure re. the Anantara. I have also heard from the Hyatt that they have post-poned their construction of a new spa until next year. So teh question still remains which hotel is the best. There has been some good reviews for the Anantara on www.asiahotels.com, which would sway me that way, however I quite like the club room and the separate swimming pool and drinks and snacks ...decisions, decisions.
Any other comments very much appreciated.
Cheers

Well - Where did you stay?
Hi Baldie,
Firstly, I really hope that Hua Hin (and your accommodation) lived up to your expectation.
It is almost mid December and I'd love to know where you stayed and what your impressions are.
Any follow up that you can give would be appreciated, as I am sure that the hotels which you were considering are of great interest to us all!
Cheers

Hyatt Regency Club Room
Pete,
Cheers for the reminder. Yep came back from Hua Hin on the 4th Dec after staying at the Hyatt Regency in a Regency Club room (get breakfast, all day tea and coffee, and alcoholic drinks and hot and cold food between 5pm to 7pm). Very nice hotel indeed. I stay in alot of high end hotels with work and the Hyatt Regency is definitely one to recommend. Beautiful grounds, right next to the beach. It is on the south side of Hua Hin, so it is about a 50 minute walk into town or a very quick trip on a Tut tut. The hotel is very Thai in design, no more than 3 storey's high, which I prefer and it is situated in lovely grounds, with a huge free form swimming pool that snakes it way around the grounds. Also it has some lovely lotus ponds. Did not eat at the Hyatt because the food was so good in the town. The town, nice enough place, some lovely restaurants which are very cheap. If you want a great green chicken curry go to a place called 'Jasmines' which is down a small road opposite the Hilton hotel. Also if you want good Japanese food in a very trendy outdoor setting, go to the 'Hagi' which is next to the Sofitel hotel. The only other hotel I would recommend, although I did not go inside would be the Sofitel, because it looked very nice and also right in the centre of the town. The night market, good place to pick up a bargain like a DVD or two, and the food is great there also, just pick your fish and watch them cook it.
Couldn't believe there was a StarBucks close to the bottom end of the night market ..what is this world coming to. Only other comment would be that it is not full of back packers, so if you are one don't expect a party town, and if you're not (like me!), then it is a nice place to stroll around.
Hope the info I have given helps a bit. Journey from Bangkok 3 hours in a car and very painless.

Hyatt Regency Club Room
Baldie - welcome back.
Don't recall Starbucks - but then I tend to shut them out, even in UK!
Good news re the Hyatt - we may give that a try next time, as a change from the Anantara. I think I have eaten in Jasmines - the Tom Kha Gai is also great, as I recall.
We will be in Thailand 16 Mar to 2 April, but Bangers and Koh Samui, not Hua Hin this trip.

Re: Sofitel - Isabella's comments will always stick with me:
Thanks for the update, I'm sure that others will find the info very useful.SOFITEL CENTRAL:
Sofitel lack of all of this and not very helpful except a guy from the garden wing swimming pool. Always pay attention to people arriving at the swimming pool and preparing all the towels and umbrellas without u asking for them (i didn't find this in the railway pool and always need to find the staff). Have to ask many times for a simple service at the reception.
Please do check your account as I got a special rate for a programme launched by the Accor hotels and they charged me normal price. I have to tell them and show them the confirmation. I didn't expected a hotel of 5 stars(?) like this. All should be perfect and all at your service.
BREAKFAST TIME: Need to wait for your time for instance for a scrambled egg. Don't guess that they will fry an egg for you. Eat what you have in the plate unless they don't have anymore.
They are not willing to help you sometimes.
ROOM SERVICE: We were in the room and they went inside our room to make the room service. No privacy. Think they were in a hurry for finishing the service and go back home.
